6 weeks pregnant and brown blood

Hi all,

This is post for emotional support. I had a fairly traumatic miscarriage at 9 weeks last Christmas. Took me a while to get over it. Was bleeding for 5 days, ended up in A&E in agony. EPU were terrible I was just transferred from one to another, no one ever called me back or saw me. Felt so ignored.

I'm now 6 weeks pregnant and just spotted light brown blood when wiping. My anxiety has now gone through the roof and I'm so worried going to miscarry again.

Anyone had some spotty and still had a positive experience? Not sure if I should even bother calling anyone this time.

yes, me! It was just twice on the same day at about 7 weeks and I freaked out and was convinced that was it over. But all was well, so fingers crossed for you.

Thanks so much you've given me a glimmer of hope. I'm all over the shop.

Yep in both my pregnancies!
With DS I had bright red blood at 11 weeks. All turned out okay!

Currently 20+5 with twins and had pink and brown spotting at 7 weeks/8 weeks. Went for a private scan at 8 weeks to check and (touch wood) everything is fine.

The sonographer couldn't find a reason why I bled and said it's much more common than we are lead to to believe and it can be simple things like your cervix being irritated etc.

mumsthew0rdd · 18/08/2022 08:23

@PinkButtercups thanks for sharing so glad it turned out well on both your pregnancies. I'm holding a little hope now. I was convinced it was game over this morning but hearing this has made me feel so much better thank you

I had this in two pregnancies on a couple of occasions between 4-8 weeks - both pregnancies continued and babies were born healthy. Wishing you all the best ❤️

stardust00 · 18/08/2022 08:58

Understand the anxiety @mumsthew0rdd having had 2 MCs. I spotted brown weeks 4-5 and had light brown bleeding at around week 7 in this pregnancy, went to an early scan as was dreading the bad news but all was fine. They said it’s likely to be old implantation blood coming out slowly. 12 weeks now and LO is well. Likely to be nothing to worry about especially if it’s short lived and no pain, but I know worry is hard to let go of. Fingers crossed for you x

Daisychainsx · 18/08/2022 09:09

Hey! It's such a worry but try not to panic (easier said than done).
The same thing happened to me around 6+4, I'm in the Republic or Ireland and they're totally on the ball so I had a different experience with hospitals, I was brought straight in for an internal exam and a TV scan, and everything was fine. They couldn't find any reason for the bleeding and the doctor said because its brown its most likely old implantation bleeding, and its common for it to take a few weeks to filter down. The exact same thing happened to me around 8 weeks and I didn't even bat an eye lid... had already booked a private scan 5 days later and there was the little thing bouncing around happy as Larry! Fingers crossed for you, its such a stressful time... I'm 14 weeks tomorrow and have my '12 week' scan this afternoon and the nerves are through the roof... the worry never ends! Let us know how you get on x

@mumsthew0rdd yes I had brown spotting at 6 weeks. I am now 29 weeks.

Due to a previous miscarriage my go prescribed me progesterone after the brown blood. Please speak to your gp as NICe guidelines state that if you have early pregnancy bleeding AND a previous miscarriage, progesterone should be prescribed :)

Hi,

I don't have any real advice but I had some brown spotting (looked like discharge) yesterday morning and then right before bed the evening before. I was so worried I contacted my GP - the Dr was really lovely but said it could go either way. She said it's a good sign that it didn't continue and that I haven't had very painful cramps.

I'm only 3+6 so it's supper early days, I'm hoping my little seed sticks!! 🤞🏻

cloudydays2 · 18/08/2022 09:50

I had brown spotting from 5w 3 days all the way till 13w ! I am now currently 34 weeks, I was told each time it was old blood and that it can come away all at once or in small amounts which is what happened to me ! I did spend money on private scans as it sent my anxiety through the roof each time I wiped !

blibbyblobb · 18/08/2022 12:37

I had brown and red spotting at 6 weeks, 8weeks.. Both scans showed healthy baby and heartbeat.. Saw baby wriggling away on 12 week scan.. Yesterday had two small red spots when wipes then nothing.. I was told to expect slight spotting but if it starts filling a pad then to raise a concern..i hope this gives u hope.. Positive vibes 💕

Jenhen89 · 18/08/2022 15:17

I had spotting for 2 weeks in a row when I was at the beginning of my pregnancy

mumsthew0rdd · 18/08/2022 17:47

Thanks so much everyone. Happened to have a doctors appointment today for my son so I asked and the doctor has referred me to EPU for an early scan. Hopefully I'll actually be seen this time round.

Appreciate all your stories though it truly has helped

Just an update if anyone is interested.
Spoke to EPU and they said the spotting was too light for real concern.

It's a week later and I've had a few other days of wiping brown but no proper bleed. Hoping in my heart this turns out well.

Best of luck to anyone in similar situations

Yes I had spotting - started early a few times - but hazy on exactly when as baby is now 24!
With my second DC I also had a bit (but didn't panic as much!)

PrettyIndigo · 23/08/2022 21:59

So did they not even scan you? Seems a bit harsh considering your history x fingers crossed for you

Nope wouldn't scan me. After my last experience I'm not too surprised I was surprised to get a call back from them as I didn't get that last time.

I may pay for a private scan if I get worried again but haven't seen any blood now for a few days so fingers crossed. Xx

Think it's implantation bleeding at that stage if it's only brown, had it with my first at about 6 weeks but strangely not with next two🤷 try not to worry🌻

CSR721 · 24/08/2022 23:03

Hey lovely! I had 3 days of brown spotting around 5 weeks and then again for 4 days or so around 17/18 weeks. I'm now 29w and all healthy so far xxx

Moosh18 · 01/11/2022 19:41

@mumsthew0rdd hey lovely, I hope everything is okay? I'm currently six weeks and four days, I have had two days of the lightest brown cm only a couple of times but it's freaking me out, I had a horrific miscarriage at 12 weeks in June and I can't face the thought of re living that! Did your spotting stop? Did you ever get a scan? I have one booked for Friday at 7 weeks x

Hey! Sorry to hear that hope you're coping ok. My spotting stopped. In the end they didn't think I needed an early scan and just went for the 12 week scan which was fine. I'm now 17 weeks and baby is growing well. Fingers crossed it works out for you but at least know it's not always bad news. Best wishes ❤️
