Sick note query UK re: pregnancy

Due to a few pregnancy complications, my midwife has suggested I need to take a few weeks off work to let settle down.

I have had a week off sick as self certification but next week I have extra scans / appointments / assessments booked in and they are concerned about BP etc. They've suggested 2 more weeks off sick and then will decide what's what. If after those 2 weeks (or sooner) they are thinking any issues then I will move all A/L & mat leave forward.

With regards to a sick note, they have advised to ask my GP for a sick note for 2 weeks. The midwife says she can't write one. The issue is the MW's haven't written a letter to the GP saying this, they've just told me to call up and request one. Is this right? Do they not write them? Will GP just take my word for it?

Hi

I had similar in my pregnancy, my GP (who I usually struggle getting appointments with) was really helpful, I said I wanted a sick note for work and my reasons why and she wrote it up that day for me to pick up. They didn't require any proof or anything

GP will be fine, they are well used to this.
People come out of hospital and get issued sick notes without GP even seeing them.

Just explain to receptionist the midwife has advised you need a further 2 weeks off and you need a sick note.
They will likely just leave one at desk for you to pick up.

Your GP will write one for you. DP needed one and just asked the receptionist who got the doctor to write one. Was ready to pick up later in the day.
