Finding out the sex of baby - How many weeks were you ?

We have decided to find out the sex of DC3. Our local hospital's information says the sonographers are happy to tell the sex at the 20 week scan which is great. At my 12 week scan I will actually be 14 weeks so am wondering whether it's too soon to ask if they can tell ?

They may be able to, but it will be much more conclusive at 20 weeks. No harm in asking though. I found out last week I'm having a boy. I was 22 weeks when I had the scan and it was clear as day even to me!

Ours has a sign up telling you not to even ask at 13 weeks . It's so easy to get it wrong at that stage that I'd be surprised if they'd venture an opinion.

hi i found out at about 22 weeks i was having a boy and the same with franke it was clear even for me to see it was a boy i did ask at the earlier scan but there told me it was to early.

FoghornLeghorn · 21/01/2008 13:06

Ok - I will make it clear we will be finding out the sex and see if they mention anything

I didnt want to find out sex of ds, but at 13wk scan it was more than obvious. Very unusual to find out this early though and sonographer did say that if ds hadnt been quite so proud of displaying his manhood, she wouldnt have told me.

you are so lucky, they won't tell us anything at all so we're having a stupidly expensive 4d scan to find out.

shoppingbags -- if you just want to find the sex you can get a (probably cheaper) private 2D scan.

We've had 3D/4D scans with DS and again with this baby, and in both cases to confirm the sex (we'd been told by the hospital at the 21-week scans, but just making relatively sure...) the sonographer looked at the 2D scan. The first one even said that it's easier to tell the sex in 2D than in 3D.

FoghornLeghorn · 21/01/2008 14:28

Oh now I'm not sure whether to even ask, if they tell DH they think it's a boy and then it turns out to be a girl he'll be heartbroken - not because it's a girl but because he thought it was a boy.
I will be 14 at my scan so could make a big difference from being scanned at 12.

ARRGGG I'm so impatient, I want to know NOW

i asked at 12 week (was actually 14) and they said it was to early. they did tell me at 20 week scan though

FoghornLeghorn · 21/01/2008 19:25

OK am thinking it's probably best not to ask until 20 weeks - which will only be another 6 weeks anyway

I would wait til 20 weeks then you'll be more confident in the result. Don't they reckon they can even get it wrong in the 20 week scan so chances of them not knowing at 12/14 weeks is quite high anyway?
