Hi. I had an early ultrasound scan today at 10.4 weeks and they informed me that my babies abdominal wall hasn’t fully closed yet but could still potentially close after the 12 week mark. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

I've looked after a couple of babies with it. They've done well. Had to wait to grow enough to fit the organs back into the correct places. They had dressings over the membrane on the abdomen until the skin had grown over. But it very much depends on the size of the defect. Have the hospital referred you to your nearest paediatric surgical centre?

Not yet no as they are going to rescan me next week to see if it resolves x

Fingers crossed. Presumably it's not a big one if they think it may resolve.

Yes we had exactly this. In our case, it was picked up at our 12 week scan (and confirmed by another scan the following day). We then had to wait for 3 awful weeks for another scan but by then, the exomphalos had disappeared and everythingwas also fine on the 20 week scan. I was anxious until he was born but he was absolutely fine and has had no sign of any issues since.

The sonographer explained that some babies just take a little longer for their abdominal wall to close.

Hey. Thank you for getting back to me. At your 12 week scan were you 12 weeks or slightly under? X
