Bleeding at 5 weeks pregnant ....

Found out I was pregnant on Monday last week (around 5 weeks )
I started bleeding yesterday and went to hospital
They did a pregnancy test after I gave a sample and said it looked fine and to go home take it easy
Today I'm still bleeding (clots ) but if the test was fine yesterday will I be okay today?
Surely if the hospital was worried they would have done more tests ?

Hi OP, sorry it's such a horrible situation, sending lots of love. Are you able to contact your local EPU at the hospital for some advice? Perhaps do another test to see if its still positive too. I hope you get some answers soon.

Bleeding in early pregnancy is so scary.

Sadly at 5 weeks there really isn't much they can do to either reassure you or change any outcome.

I had subchoronic heamatoma with both mine and bled on and off throughout my first trimesters. Both babies are happy and healthy now.

At 6 weeks the EPU can scan to see if anything is there, but for now it really is a wait and see situation.

That said, if you get any pain, especially in your shoulder to back to a&e immediately.

Bleeding in early pregnancy is common but definitely unsettling. It doesn't automatically mean something is wrong.

Unfortunately as a previous poster said, they can't do anything for baby at this stage and they only really care about you if its ectopic or you're at risk of bleeding out essentially. I tell completely uncared for. Well, that was my bad experience. I hope yours is better.

Unfortunately a single HCG measurement doesn't tell you much. You can test positive weeks after miscarriage. I'd ring your EPU see if you can have 48h HCG monitoring, ie they take two samples 48 hours apart to check if it's doubling as expected.

Hi @ploppo, so sorry you're experiencing this. I am 5 weeks too having only found out on Wednesday. Last night I had a light bleed, doctor has just said take another test in a week as it's too early. I had hoped they'd do a blood test, especially as I don't seem to be getting any line progression.

Sorry didn't mean to overtake your thread - I wanted to ask how things had gone over the weekend, I really hope well for you ❤️

It's really hard, but at this stage there really is nothing they can do. They can't stop a miscarriage happening if it's going to happen.

I know that's no comfort for you going through it, but it really is a wait and see situation
