Unknown pregnancy location

Hi all

I had a very early scan (5 weeks) today due to some cramping in my lower left pelvis and back ache.

they could see the gestational sac - although apparently it was smaller than it should be, and I am 100% sure of dates - and they couldn’t see a yolk.

Going back in again on Saturday for bloods but am nervous. Has anyone been through similar? Could it just be slow to develop as I know I ovulated 22 days ago… or is it likely miscarriage / ectopic?

I don't get how it can be unknown location if they saw the gestational sac?

apparently a fifth of ectopics show a sac of fluid in the correct place still, so just having that without the yolk is classed as unknown

Ok, didn't know that. I don't think there is anything you can do except try to relax - deep breathing if you feel panicky/anxious - and see what comes from the bloods.

I had a pregnancy of unknown location a few years ago. Although they never did find where my pregnancy was, even though my HCG was rising every 2 days for 2 weeks. I eventually had to take methotrexate. Sorry for your loss x

Hi I’m in exactly the same position and have a second scan at the end of the week (should be just over 6 weeks by then). I was wondering how your bloods went/whether you have a second scan booked? Really hope it’s all ok for you! This is a really tough time isn’t it being in limbo is just so rubbish :(
