Can you tell when the heads actually engaged?

Just wondered as I am 39 weeks tommorrow and the midwife said the head is still free. Have been merrily boinging on my birthing ball and am currently sitting cowboy style on my office chair! I have noticed since yesterday that when I wee, it doesn't come out very well! (sorry tmi!) Is this a sign maybe? I am sure lo is more down on some days than others aswell, so is it possible for them to engage and dis-engage? (This is baby no2 btw.) TIA

hi you can definitely tell when the head is engaged as it feels as if you have got a ball between your legs and it is really uncomfortable to sit in the one position for long. also it is possible for the baby to bob in and out of your pelvis esp if it is your second DC. i think it is to do with the fact that there is slightly more space in there now you sound as if you are doing your best to get your LO into a good position so dont worry too much

2nd baby's often don't engage. Don't let it worry you if the baby doesn't move down.

Ah, thanks MrsEi25, have felt that on and off for the past couple of weeks!
