5 Weeks - Don’t Feel Pregnant

I’m five weeks along and don’t feel remotely pregnant (IVF). I don’t have any symptoms except the odd very uncomfortable cramp (a couple of days ago they were very persistent but seem to have died down). No sore boobs unless I really press.

My beta, when taken on 14dp5dt, was on the lower side (600). The clinic are not checking whether it is doubling and have just asked me to come in for a scan in two weeks.

I actually don’t know why I am so anxious, as I’m preparing myself for the worst at the scan. But please could you tell me if not having symptoms is a bad sign? The lack of sore boobs is the thing that particularly worries me, especially combined with the beta.

You maybe just too early for symptoms, all my pregnancies were different, with my daughter I didn't feel pregnant until 9 weeks then I felt very rough.
No bleeding is the best sign, best of luck

Morning! I’m 5+0 today (not IVF pregnancy, no history of MC) and I don’t have many symptoms either - everyone on the due date group seems to be throwing up already, whereas i feel pretty normal bar a stronger sense of smell. In my last pregnancy symptoms didn’t really kick in until 7 weeks and I think that’s pretty normal.

Frida9 · 10/08/2022 12:03

I'm 14 weeks and apart from a couple of weeks of sore boobs from about 7/8 weeks I've had no symptoms. Not everyone gets nausea and morning sickness, it doesn't mean anything is wrong

Fleabea · 10/08/2022 12:08

Please don't worry- I had what was supposed to have been my 12 week scan last week and they told me I was actually 16 weeks so had been pregnant for a whole month without realising. I also had very little symptoms even when I did know I was pregnant - no nausea, just bouts of tiredness. Baby at 12 16 week scan was perfectly happy.

IVF pregnancy 19wks here. I didn’t really get symptoms until week 8 I think, aside from period cramps in week 3/4 and a weekend of vomiting and diarrhea at the start of week 6. To date I’ve only had sore boobs once or twice. I suppose a lot of women don’t realize they’re pregnant till 7/8 weeks, but with IVF you feel like you’ve been pregnant for months already so the wait for symptoms to start seems endless.

I completely sympathize with you… the weeks leading up to the heartbeat scan are psychological torture (maybe slightly better than the 2ww?). I cried with relief when I heard the heartbeat and again at my 12 wk scan. It was impossible to concentrate on work at all, and I couldn’t see how it would improve. You’ll get through these weeks though and then the worry will die down a lot.

And try to eat plenty now because if the nausea does kick in, you’re going to miss enjoying your food for a while.

Thanks @minticecreamisjustok , @Fleabea , @Frida9 , @Wouldloveanother . My Mum says she didn’t have many symptoms until later in 1st trimester, so hopefully it’s genetic! As my beta were on low side, so can’t help but think it’s bad news. I’m also on extra progesterone, which doesn’t help the anxiety.

@Krakinou congrats on your pregnancy, and thanks for your message. This is my third transfer after three rounds, so felt like it has taken me an age to get here. The wait is torture. I wish someone could just tell me what is going on in there, so I just know! I just feel that my chances of that scan being positive are lower because I don’t feel anything. Might go out and by a ClearBlue digital 🤔although not sure if that would tell me much at this stage.

I did the repeat testing too. Had about 20 cheapy tests lined up on my desk with lines getting increasingly darker. Be careful with that though - after a certain HCG level the lines actually start getting lighter and then disappear - that happened on mine when I cracked and retested at 5.5 weeks. It’s called the hook effect: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8971111/#:~:text=In%20late%20pregnancy%2C%20with%20the,to%20harmful%20tests%20and%20imaging.

Long story short, unfortunately there’s not much you can do besides wait and see.

Mine was 3rd transfer too (2nd round). I hope this is third time lucky for you too. X

I had symptoms v early with all my pregnancies except this one.
Nothing at all until 6 weeks. Not a clue I was even pregnant until my period was late and even then I didn't really believe it!
If you've got a positive test and no bleeding those are good signs, and it's very early anyway.

georgarina · 10/08/2022 14:29

Oh and I'm 13 weeks now and haven't had sore boobs at all.

cryingbabymess · 10/08/2022 14:37

I'm 5 weeks 5 days and I've zero symptoms! I only knew I was pregnant due to late period and then positive tests.

DangerouslyBored · 10/08/2022 15:27

IVF baby here, I felt nothing at 5 weeks.

Then all hell broke loose at 6 weeks and I had 10 weeks of debilitating nausea.

Now 29 weeks and no symptoms other than lots of kicking.

Pretty standard to have no symptoms at 5 weeks.

Pippagled · 13/10/2022 15:04

@Buddleia86 How are you getting on? I'm currently 5w5d and feel nothing and also feel concerned. I had some very mild cramps last week, but not anymore.

FirstTimeTryer93 · 13/10/2022 15:17

I'm 17+2 and apart from sore boobs I have zero symptoms. Rejoice having no symptoms means ya lucky xxx

H1994 · 14/10/2022 12:00

Hi! Sorry if I'm a bit late to this, but I'm now 9+5, and symptoms have only just become noticeable really... I remember being worried at 5/6/7 weeks thinking why don't I feel pregnant yet, but I can assure you - it is definitely possible!

Buddleia86 · 18/10/2022 13:08

Hi @Pippagled. I’m afraid it wasn’t a good outcome for me ultimately, as I miscarried at 9 + 2 (development stopped at 9 weeks). However, everything looked good on the three scans I had up to that point, including a scan at 8 weeks. I did start to get mild symptoms, including sickness and food aversions from 7 weeks. I don’t think the fact that I had no symptoms at 5 weeks meant anything. Think it is pretty common.

Wishing you the best of luck x

Oh I'm so so sorry to hear that and sorry for bringing it up - that was probably quite insensitive of me. I hope you're okay? Thanks for the reassurance about symptoms. Xx
