I'm scared because I drank - help?

Hi moms and moms to be,

I hope I find some of you with this message. I didn't know I was pregnant...and I had a barbecue and drank copious amounts of alcohol and then a day after that...did again. I had a couple days off and really went quite wild...I'm SO scared now that I got my positive test (I was one day late for my period). Is something bad going to happen to my baby? I'm just so scared. Please help me put my mind at ease.

Signed,

Guilty and Overwhelmed

You will be fine!! There are soooooo many women who have done this before finding out. Everything will be fine.

congratulations!!

JasmineVioletRose · 09/08/2022 22:53

Your baby will be fine. So many people do this when they don't mean to fall pg. just look after yourself super well from now on op. And congratulations 🥳🎉

Nothing too much should transmit to the baby until the placenta is fully operational at around twelve weeks. It will be absolutely fine, millions of women have done exactly the same thing. Don't worry love

Like Sixsmith said, your baby doesn't actually get much from you at this point. It's just nestling into your womb, not properly connected via the placenta which is where the big blood flow stuff comes in.
You haven't done anything to your baby
Congratulations

My third and ‘surprise’ baby (born 20th September) and was almost definitely conceived at some point over a very boozy Christmas/New Year!
She’s fine, but I worried about this too.
All will be well.

It's still a tiny bundle of cells at this point.

You don't share a blood stream until the placenta forms around 10 weeks.

Don't worry!

I did this before I knew I was expecting and now have a perfectly healthy 2 month old baby girl...lots of women do it before knowing they are pregnant.
As long as you aren't continuing to drink etc. I'm sure your baby will be just fine.

Thanks to all!!! I appreciate you so much. Smile

Congratulations, don’t worry this happens all the time. You didn’t know. Baby will be fine, just look after yourself and relax.

I’m in the same boat - boozy weekend for a friend’s birthday and a few drinks after work last night. Just got a BFP and I feel no guilt, but definitely overwhelmed for different reasons!!

Congratulations!!

A massive proportion of babies aren’t conceived in a planned “clean eating and tea total” way and they’re fine. In fact, a lot of babies have a here drinks to thank for their existence. Is drinking through pregnancy that’s the risk.

I was 16 weeks before I knew I was pregnant PCOS so rarely had a period. Had lots of fun times. Please don't worry
