how late for booking appointment

I'm around 4 weeks, just found out. My last two pregnancies I've self referred to hospital straight away to get booked in. The last one ended in miscarriage at 6 weeks and ringing up the hospital to cancel appointments was not much fun. I don't want to have to do that again if I can help it. So how long can I leave booking in for? I don't want to miss the important dates for screenings and things, but will I get an 8 week appointment if I leave it until 7 weeks to self refer? Just looking for experience of delaying it on purpose, obviously each hospital will be a bit different.
Thanks.

I had my booking in appointments at 9 weeks and 12 weeks, so you don't have to have it done by 8. I also never contacted them until I was at least 7 weeks as I had had losses too.

Congratulations and all the best for a smooth and easy pregnancy Flowers

I phoned my GP at 4 weeks and was given a booking appointment for 10 weeks, services are busy at the moment in a lot of places so best not to put it off. Maybe just ask if you can have the appointment a certain date?

I referred at 6 weeks and was seen at 9 weeks. I wouldn't count on getting an appointment the following week however like others have said you don't need your booking appointment at 8 weeks.

@addler thank you. Did you still get your first scan in time when you didn't have the booking appointment until 12 weeks?

Yes I had my scan before I had my booking in appointment!

I had a private scan at 7 weeks, and self referred after that. Anxiety took over and I didn’t want to book in until I knew it was likely to be viable

That sounds like a good plan, thank you.

Week 10. Due to a similar reason. I lost a baby a few days before a booking appointment and then hd to call and cancel. Lovely midwife still called me at the time to check as she rightly guessed what had happened.

Next baby, had booking app, started losing the baby that night.

So next pregnancy. Didn't register till 6 weeks, when the midwife (same one) called at about 8 weeks to arrange the slot I burst into tears and told her I couldn't face booking in if this one didn't make it. We agreed I would call her back at 10 weeks and that was plenty of time to get blood tests done and arrange scan.

So do the form and talk to your midwife
