How much bleeding is ok?

6 weeks pregnant, starting getting sludgy brown discharge a day or two ago - today it is red, but light, not a heavy flow. I don’t have any pain.

is this going to be ok? Or am I likely screwed?

It's really 50/50, I would call you hospital's EPU and explain, they'll hopefully ask you in for an early scan to see what's going on. Good luck.

Hi, sorry you are having to deal with this. Bleeding can be totally normal in early pregnancy and it has been for me in my current pregnancy (brown and pink mainly).
However it could also not be normal and I have had 2 mc that started with the brown discharge and changed to red bleeding. I would contact your local epau and get them to scan you so you can know either way.
I hope everything works out for you.

Thanks for responding, I appreciate it. I’m avoiding biting the bullet, but you’re right, I just need to call them and find out.

Just sad. This was our last shot.

As PPs have said, light bleeding / spotting can be relatively harmless, could be something like a subchorionic hemorrhage, I had one of these at 8 weeks. Bleeding later on after the first trimester is more of a concern. You should always get bleeding checked out. Fingers crossed it’s something innocuous x

Thank you, I will cross my fingers!

It's not always a bad thing, but good to get checked out. Fingers crossed for you x

My friend had bright red heavy bleeding at 6 weeks pregnant and all was fine x fingers crossed for you OP

Blossomandbee · 03/08/2022 17:39

I was told it's considered normal in early pregnancy unless heavy, painful or with clots. My Drs not particularly sympathetic advice (as he didn't want to refer me for a scan) was to keep doing tests and check the line was getting stronger and not fading off.

Mycatsgoldtooth · 03/08/2022 17:41

I had some mega bleeds up until 14 weeks. Each time EPU were surprised to see a heartbeat. Go and see them. Really hope it’s ok for you x

I feel a bit more encouraged! I can’t get to EPAU tonight (it’s not open past 5!) but will go tomorrow.

I really hope it all works out for you. I had a heavy bleed in the first trimester and all was ok.
At the time they said lack of pain was a good sign, so fingers crossed for you.

Just been scanned, waiting to see the doctor. The sack looks 5 weeks when should be nearer 7, so it looks like it’s done.

Thanks for the support, ladies

Sorry OP 😔

ElspethTascioni · 05/08/2022 16:17

I’m being rescanned in a fortnight - they can’t confirm it’s a non-viable pregnancy yet, because the sac is there is the right place - but no fetal pole (which you would expect at 6 weeks 5 days! ) but the dates could just be wrong. I don’t think they are, but maybe I ovulated very late?! I’m foolish to think there might be a bit of hope remaining, I know.
