Are these ok or not? I have not been advised against them and had a curry on Thursday after coming back from holiday and eating out for 2 weeks but a friend of a friend just bollocked me out for it!!!! Been absolutely fine so no stomach upsets but I just can't seem to find anything on the net confirming.

Think you'll be ok! If food was from a decent takeaway and tasted OK then I'm sure there's nothing to worry about. I eat takeaways (at 35 weeks), although i tend to avoid rice and sea food (although I don't eat fish anyway , I just stick to plain food but this is more to avoid indigestion [grr].

MrsBadger · 19/01/2008 16:16

of course they are ok

sounds like friend is a bit hysterical

good non-panicky guide here

Snaf · 19/01/2008 16:17

Absolutely no reason why you shouldn't have takeaways. This 'friend' wouldn't expect you not to go to restaurants just because you're pregnant, would they?

finallypregnant · 19/01/2008 16:20

aaahhh thank you ladies for your help. Getting sick of "others" advice!

am convinced there is a secret society out there (I call them the 'pregnancy police') who are dedicated to making pregnancy as dull and miserable as possible and spread all sorts of rumours about what you're not allowed to do....

think I shall start an underground resistance movement....

Snaf · 19/01/2008 18:21

I'll join you, moomin.

We can call it Women Against Being Made To Feel Like Baby-Carrying Vessels Utterly Devoid Of Their Own Needs And Wants (WABMTFLBCVUDOTONAW for short).

Or something.

LadyOfTheCauliFlowers · 19/01/2008 19:02

I ate takeaways whenever I wanted (within reason) during both pregancies and still have the weight to prove it and DS2 is 15m old.

is your friend stone mad? I couldn't live without curry.. Haylstones right - if its a decent place and you avoid seafood etc (which I always do anyway) whats the worry?

SallyInYorkshire · 19/01/2008 19:17

your friend is talking rubbish - of course takeaways are fine! i reckon they are positively good for you as you don't need to spend hours slaving over a hot stove / doing the washing up afterwards!!!

moominsmummy · 19/01/2008 20:35

lol at Helen's acronym

helenhismadwife · 19/01/2008 23:21

Mumblesmummy · 20/01/2008 10:15

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm takeaways (homer simpson stylee)

macaco · 20/01/2008 10:34

Oh God it drives me INSANE all this, you shouldn't eat this or that or the other. Most of which is total BOLLOCKS. To have a completely risk free pregnancy you should probably sit in a dark room for 9 months. What's next? You shouldn't drive? You shouldn't cross the road? Why not put us all into purdah to avoid all danger? It's like the Taleban.

Rant over.

What exactly is this "friend" concerned about? That you might actually enjoy your food?

Snaf · 20/01/2008 11:04

Macaco - surely you realise that by sitting in a darkened room for 9 months you will be depriving your baby of vital Vitamin D? It will be born with rickets, you know.

How could you even think of suggesting such a thing?

Some women are so selfish.

It's only 9 months, can't you think of the baaaaybeeeee?

tudorrose · 20/01/2008 11:17

stop making me laugh im 35 weeks and cant do it safely any more!

moominsmummy · 21/01/2008 18:09

oh shucks - we have been rumbled by the pregnancy police

they clearly got wind of us setting up subversive resistance movement and promptly issued new "scare-pregnant-women-even-more" advice about caffeine

now we're being told we can't even have a cup of tea FFS!!!

watch out cos they'll be advising that breathing during pregnancy is bad for you next.........grrrrr

must end rant here as kettle is boiling
