So I had my midwife appointment today and she said is was measuring lower than I actually am and that the baby's growth has slowed down, she said she's not to concerned but she wants to keep a close eye on it at my next appointment, and because im just 2cm off im not able to have a growth scan to see what's happening.

Anyone else measured lower than they should?

This happened in my first pregnancy, went for a growth scan and everything was fine. Turns out the midwife just measured wrong. 🙄 Baby was on the smaller side but not worryingly so in the end.
Second pregnancy and measuring small again so being sent for extra growth scans. I think I just make small babies. Midwife told me it's all based on averages so a white, 5ft 8 woman would be expected to have a baby x weight but a woman of a different background and height will probably have a different average. If you fall below that average then they just try to monitor you more closely. I wouldn't be too worried about things at this point.

My mum had a similar experience with me. I came out fine and am now 5'51/2"

Thank you both, im 5'4 or 5'5. I told my midwife I was concerned about the baby bump because of how small it is at being almost 8 months, b

Was it the same midwife who has measured you all the other times?

I had a different midwife do my appointment and I measured smaller, they got in a flap and sent me for a scan and everything was absolutely fine. As I thought, it was just because a different person had measured me!

mummyh2016 · 02/08/2022 18:36

I was measuring 3cm ahead every appointment until 36 weeks when apparently I hadn't grown in 2 weeks. Went for a growth scan 2 days later and all was fine.

And in my first pregnancy I measured 2 weeks behind at every appointment, DD arrived at 38 weeks at 6lb 8oz - not exactly the titchy baby I thought I was having.

@mummyh2016 this has made me feel loads better. I measured 3 weeks ahead at 25 weeks and was sent for a GTT. That came back totally normal so they’re now discussing growth scans!

Terriw98 · 02/08/2022 20:12

Normally I always have the same midwife, but yes I had a different one at my last appointment as my main one was on holiday. I do wish I asked the midwife who measured me the first time what it was but I didn't think.

Yeah my bump measured small all through my pregnancy, had growth scans and all seemed ok. DD was born just after 39 weeks weighing 7lb 8!
I'm 5ft 4 and pretty slim, do quite a lot of weights so assumed maybe that held my bump in! Good luck.
