Struggling with boys baby names

Really struggling with boys baby names. We think we’ve managed to narrow it down to two. One being Frederick (Freddie for short) and one being Verdun (Verdie or Verdi for short). Verdun was my husband’s Grandads name but not sure if that’s a bit too unique! What does everyone think? 🤔

I really do not like Verdun, where I live people would pronounce it Vuuuuuurduun. Awful.

Frederick is nice.

Frederick is meh, Verdun is awful. What about Vaughn or Martin?

FlatBottomedGirl · 02/08/2022 02:01

How about Frederick Verdun? They flow well together.

ALittleBitofVitriol · 02/08/2022 04:08

I quite like Verdun and like the family link. I agree it would also work well as a middle name. Frederick is fine but a bit ho-hum for my personal taste.

I imagine Verdun might have a like to WWI (Battle of Verdun) so possibly a link to a soldier who fought there? I’m a teacher and have taught students with lots of unusual names- they tend to grow into them! Freddie is quite popular at the moment judging from my DS’s nursery so I suppose it’s about how popular you want to go with it :) congratulations on your pregnancy!

I don't like Verdun, but I think Verdin would be quite nice? Frederick/Freddie is cute. I'm too early on to know if I'm having a boy or girl yet but I quite like the name Calix for a boy (although as people have pointed out, it sounds like IKEA Kallax furniture 🙄🤣)

Verdun immediately put me on mind of WW1 as well. I wonder if he was named for the battle or the city. It's not one I would go for, but imo it's far nicer than Frederick.

Hobbesmanc · 02/08/2022 12:00

I've got a gorgeous little Frederick nephew and it's my great grandfather name too so I'm biased. Freddy is really cute although the little one seems to have fastened on Rico (Frederico) which suits him.

Verdun doesn't work for me

SalviaOfficinalis · 02/08/2022 12:03

I love Frederick.
Verdun would make a nice middle name - a little too unusual for me for a first name.

greatblueheron · 02/08/2022 12:10

Frederick Verdun

You can shorten it to 'Freddie' or 'Fred' as he grows up, and Verdun is a nod to his grandfather.

Dustyblue · 02/08/2022 12:15

I agree Verdun makes a better middle name.

My DH and DS's middle names are Vane. It's an old family name going back generations. A nice nod to the past but not a great first name!

Vaughn is lovely.
