Hi all I’m looking for some reassurance. I’m 16 weeks 2 days pregnant and just found out I’m having a baby boy yesterday. I received a phone call from my mid wife advising my papp a is low ( 0.270 ) and I have to go on aspirin etc. the way she told me on the phone call she named everything that could be bad/go wrong with my pregnancy and then said “ but a consultant will call you next Monday “. All I have done is cry for worry and have no idea how I can concentrate on anything other than this until our 20 week scan ( 23rd august) . Can anybody please tell me how this affected themselves/ their baby/ their pregnancy as I am worried sick. Thank you in advance

Hey, this happened to me and caused so much worry and upset - especially as I’d had a straight forward pregnancy previously.
I’m currently 39+1 weeks pregnant and it’s had no impact at all, despite all our worrying!! Baby measured 10th percentile and since stopping aspirin has shot up to 50th and now 75th! No talk of induction, all proceeding as normal. The only difference has been extra scans but this has been quite reassuring throughout.
There is a great Facebook group as well which is full of positive stories. You will be ok and they will keep a closer eye on you just to make sure. Try and relax and enjoy your pregnancy ❤️

I had low pappa I freaked when I found out, when you read online it says horrible stuff. I just had growth scans every 2-3 weeks and they advised me not to take aspirin, I went full term 41weeks and a healthy 8pound 8 baby boy💖

Don't worry yourself to much, they will keep an eye on you x

Hi all, I also have low Papp A which was picked up with my 12 week bloods. I am reassured that the extra monitoring will mean nothing untoward happens.

I am taking the aspirin - @ljdxxx @Sunandsea77 , how comes you were advised against?

Sunandsea77 · 02/08/2022 12:43

Sorry if my post was misleading - I DID take aspirin until 36 weeks when I was advised to stop. I think it’s common to stop a few weeks before the end, but also I had a haemorrhage at birth with my previous so thinner blood is not wanted 😅
Ironically baby’s growth has improved since stopping aspirin (not implying it stumped growth, just that they thought baby would do the opposite!)

In my first pregnancy I had low PAPP-A. I too was on aspirin and I also paid privately for an NIPT test as a result which came back clear. I had 3 weekly scans due to this throughout the third trimester, my consultant said this isn’t standard procedure but that he’d rather be proactive about it. I went into labour at 37+5 and had an EMCS due to breech but had a healthy 7lbs 3 baby who is now a boisterous toddler but perfect. It is one of those things that can be indicative of issues but can just as easily not be.

I have low Papp a. Currently 36 weeks. I was so worried but actually hasn't affected much at all. I've had increased monitoring, lots of extra scans but baby is growing steadily around the 30th centile. I've been taking aspirin since 12 weeks as I had preeclampsia in my previous pregnancy anyway, and I'm starting weekly midwife bp checks from this week.

There is a great Facebook support group for low Papp a which has lots of advice and positive stories which have helped when I've been really worrying.

Hi. I was told at my consultant appointment at 21 weeks that I have low PAPP-A. I'm now 24+1.
I've been taking aspirin since week 14 as prescribed but wasn't told at the time why, I now know.

I've been told I will have 2- 3 weekly growth scans from 28 Wks and be monitored. I must admit it feels scary and not much Information was given to me. I literally had to go away and figure it out by myself with the help of Google & other chat forum sites.

It's reassuring to know that others have had this & have healthy babies - but so worrying x

My midwife and consultant just said there wasn't much research into aspirin doing anything so just said there wasn't much point taking it. But every hospital is different they said x

Congratulations 🙂 I also got told after my 12 week scan that I had low papp-a I was so panicked, I’m now 35 weeks pregnant & at 33 weeks baby was measuring 4lb 4oz. My bump is measuring 38 weeks & another growth scan next week x

I’ve just seen this thread. I was told I have low Papp a from my 12 week bloods and wasn’t really told anything about it. Midwife told me not to worry about it as 90% of mothers who have it go on to have really healthy babies and it just meant baby could be small. No risks were discussed with me or my partner even though we asked several times about it. We’ve been having serial scans every three week and I’m now 37 weeks with a baby roughly weighing 5lbs 6oz. I wasn’t told to take aspirin and I didn’t even look pregnant until around 6 months. It’s only been the past 5-6 weeks that my bump has grown a lot and I actually look almost 9 months pregnant 😂 I’ve been cleared for a midwife led birth as long as my last scan on the 7th sept shows a weight gain which we are hoping for but she has grown every scan and went from the 3rd percentile up to between the 10th and 50th which the doctor was happy with. Fingers crossed she puts the right amount of weight on and we can continue as midwife led 🤞🏻

Good luck @Northernerinwales

Seeing your message, I just wanted to give an update on the birth of my low Papp-a baby. She was born at 40+5 without induction, completely naturally with no interventions … weighing 8lb 4oz which is 4oz heavier than her none low Papp-a brother was!! A very healthy and content little girl 👶 No issues with me either and am having a really quick recovery this time ❤️
