Hi all,
Just a quick note to ask about seat belts for your car. I have a Ka and was already with a round belly before pregnancy now 25 weeks and struggling to put my seatbelt on.

Asked at local garage if they could fit a longer one but they didn't seem to think it was possible, something to do with the casing the seat belt sits in when not in use. But the guy said as i was pregnant i was exempt from wearing it in later stages anyway as in an accident they can be more harmful to baby than not wearing one.

Does anyone know this to be the case or have any solutions?

no no noooooo my local hospital has leaflets stressing the importance of wearing a seat belt. i don't believe pregnant women are exempt.
You should wear the belt under the bump not across it, this will prevent baby from injury from the belt. You can buy a pad to sit on that has velcro loops to thread the belt through that keeps it below your bump.
I don't know about seatbelt extensions as any addition would surely reduce the effectivness of the belt ?
If you are a passenger and not driver you could try moving the seat back so you are closer to the belt and futher from the winscreen - the safest place to be in a car is actually backseat behind driver.

Will the belt not fit under your bump? That's the only suggestion I have I'm afraid. You shouldn't wear the belt over the top of it, he's right - should be above and below it.

i should add - unless your driving then you want to be where you can reach the controls

Sorry misread that - you should always wear a seatbelt!
