10 Weeks Spotting & Cramps

Hi All…. Just wondered if anyones had anything similar and it’s been okay? I am 10 weeks pregnant, first pregnancy!

Had a private scan just over a week ago and all was great! Yesterday I had one episode of spotting, it wasn’t much but it was bright red blood! I’ve been having cramps since, similar to period cramps and they woke me up at 5am! No more bleeding so far… and hopefully it stays that way!

Phoned midwife office at the hospital and they said nothing they can do, EPU won’t scan me at 10 weeks and just to wait and see…. She said it could be bad, as bleeding isn’t normal! She did also say it could have been a small bleed from my cervix and the pain could be just where there’s a lot of stretching and growing going on in there! Although it’s a pain similar to period pain.. Going a little crazy with worry!

I'm sorry to hear you're so worried and I'm keeping my fingers firmly crossed that everything is fine! While it might not be 'normal', bleeding is very common, especially in early pregnancy (that's what I was told by a midwife) and is nothing sinister in a lot of cases. And the pain could very much be down to the stretching. I hope it gets better and you can relax a little 🌻

Hi! I am currently 10 weeks and I have also had bleeding. The past 3 days I have had random spotting but it's bright red blood. On one of the days I had tiny tiny clots. I haven't had any pain apart from the usual stretching cramps that I have had on and off throughout my pregnancy. My midwife actually referred me to EPU (I guess it must be different guidelines for different trusts) and my appointment is later on today. I will let you know how I get on if that helps?

@Skippy90 Thank you 😊 yes I’ve heard from other people and know from family experiences it can be normal and people go on to have healthy pregnancies! I’m trying to focus on that, thanks so much!

@Cottage123 It definitely seems to vary by area/trust! So happy you are getting seen and I wish you the best of luck, please do let me know how you get on! If I have further bleeding I’ll just ring back and ask again, maybe I’ll get someone different on the phone! No further bleeding for me but quite strong cramps, also getting the stretching/full feeling though so fingers crossed!

Keeping everything crossed for you both!!
@SJ1994 what could also be an option if you do continue to have any worries is to speak to your GP who might refer you to the hospital for a scan. That's what I did and I had a scan at the hospital the next day - although admittedly a slightly different scenario. w

@Skippy90 thats a good idea - thank you!

No bleeding since the spotting on Sunday and after a full day of cramping yesterday, that’s gone today. Hoping this is positive! 12 week scan is 2 weeks today.

I had spotting at 8 weeks and again at 10. I've had a private scan after each and all been OK and baby measuring well. Got my 12 week scan a week today and keeping everything crossed.
Good luck.

@Bella9992 Oh I’m so glad all was fine at your private scans! Hope your 12 week scan goes well, I’m sure it will! I had a scan at 9 weeks (now 10.5) and all was well and we saw/heard the heartbeat but that was before my spotting/cramps! Got a call with GP today just to get their advice 🙂
