Spotting at 10 weeks

I’m feeling very anxious… I started spotting dark brown blood this morning (tiny quantities) and then it seemed to be (sorry TMI) mucous-y later on. Looked like bits of mucous plug (I remember from my first baby).

One half of me thinks a bit of spotting is very normal early pregnancy and the other half is convinced I’m losing the baby and should see a doctor. I had a scan just a few days ago and the baby had a heartbeat and was very healthy seeming. Pregnancy is so anxiety-inducing.

Should I just wait it out?

Ps I haven’t had sex so it isn’t that!

@Thisismyfirstrodeo I'm in a similar situation so was wondering if you had an update?

@LittleLottle I had brown spotting weeks 4 and 5 and light brown bleeding week 7 around my period due time. It was quite a bit and I didn't have much hope. Just had a scan at 10.5 weeks and LO is perfect. No guarantees I know - had 2 MCs before - but it's probably nothing. Do you have your NHS scan coming up soon? x

I had spotting at 10 weeks with DC1 - I panicked and called 111 and they referred me to the hosp for an early scan. All was well and they said the bleeding was unexplained but, sometimes happens and they weren't concerned. DD turns 3 soon and the rest of the pregnancy was a breeze 😊

I’m now 11 weeks with DC2 and no spotting so far. I guess every pregnancy is different. I would definitely recommend checking in with your midwife or healthcare provider for peace of mind 😊 it made me feel lots better.

Hope all is well x

I had a scan for reassurance a few days later and all was absolutely fine! Hopefully same for you @LittleLottle . If you can afford it I would recommend a scan to put your mind at ease it really helped me with the worry.
It was really just a small amount of brown blood mixed with mucous. I imagine it was small amounts of the mucous plug? But apparently this regenerates. I took it as a strong sign to take it easy (was in the middle of house move and I think I over exerted myself).

@LittleLottle I had something similar, so called the EPU - DH and I were due to go on holiday 24 hours later, and he was really anxious about going. The nurse I spoke to was really reassuring, and said that there was no need to do an early scan since I had my nuchal scan booked for a fortnight’s time anyway. She seemed to be happy that it was just brown and mucus-y, and said to call back if I started to soak a pad.

Best to call anyway, of course.

@Thisismyfirstrodeo glad it was all okay and thanks for the update! We also got an early scan and all is good thankfully! We've not long had a miscarriage so were thinking the worst.

@LittleLottle so glad to hear! Fingers crossed for healthy pregnancies for us both!

Thank you so much for posting this! I am 10 weeks and I've had brown spotting today. This has been so scary, I called the emergency midwife number and organised a scan for tomorrow. Fingers crossed all is okay tomorrow. It is such a relief to read that you and your baby are okay. 🤞
