Hi all
I'm Dee, mummy to Millie who is 2 and am expecting #2. I'm approx 9.5 weeks and have my first scan in a couple of weeks and am really really nervous this time and I dont know why really.

I guess it's stems from hearing about people who find out their babys heart beat stopped weeks before their scans without them miscarrying. I'm petrified of that happening

Anyone local to me on here? I'm in Dewsbury

Not local but just wanted to say that its natural to be nervous, esp if you've heard scare stories - its the downside of having all this info at our fingertips!
You need to hear about good stuff too, to realise the scare stories are pretty rare in comparison. Think about all the lovely healthy babies out there and talk to positive people.
My pre-natal yoga teacher has the right idea - she bans anyone from talking about negative stuff/scare stories in her class.
Congrats on your pg and good luck! X

Thank you BearMama

I know it's probably irrational. I'm usually upbeat about everything, enjoyed my first pregnancy and wass quite naive about things. I guess 2nd time round you KNOW what to expect, you've heard sad stories and it gets to you at times

I'll soon pick myself up after my scan hopefully. Not long, it's 4th Feb!

I'm not local either, but just wanted to say that you will be fine. Try to ignore the scary stories and just put your fingers in your ears when anyone tries to say anything negative! Congratulations on your pregnancy . Hope you have a very uneventful and enjoyable pregnancy!

When I went for my first scan, when pregnant with DD, I was sooo scared and the sonographer seemed to take ages to find her. Then she said "there it is" and I said "is it alive?" I was so relieved when she showed me the heartbeat!

Naetha · 18/01/2008 23:53

Hey Milliemoomoo, I'm kinda local - live in Bingley (not a million miles away!). Just to say that I was paranoid about having a missed miscarriage before my 12 week scan - I think the fear is perfectly normal! Unfortunately that paranoia returned in about week 13 until I felt movements at 16 weeks.

All that worrying was in vain though, as I'm sat here with 2 week old DS asleep on my lap

Izzybel · 18/01/2008 23:57

Aww, congratulations Naetha! I agree. The worrying does subside a little when you start to feel movements.

MillieMooMoo · 19/01/2008 07:27

Thanks for the reassurance ladies

As this is my 2nd pregnancy, I did feel flutters a couple of weeks ago and was told some had felt these much earlier in their 2nd pregnancies but I dont recall feeling these "flutters" for about a week. This doesnt help with my paranoia

I dont think it'll go away until I actually see the little bubs on the screen

Also, my scan is on my Dads birthday, so would hate for any bad news on this day too

Oh well, 16 days to my scan and counting

Thanks for your welcome and replies!

I can totally sympathise !

In my first pregnancy (DD1, I was very niave and just presumed everything would be fine and I would have a perfectly healthy baby at the end of the 40 weeks. 2nd time around (DD2), I drove myelf to distraction with thoughts of the sonographer telling me there was no heartbeat, I really did work myself up into a state over it and even after the scan I didn't feel any movements until after my 20 weeks so I had about 8 weeks of unknown again as I had been execting to feel movements sooner.
I am now pregnant with #3 and although I still have those miggles in my mind I do feel slightly less worried this time - I had a brief scan over the Xmas period (to rule out an ectopic), it was literally a couple of seconds to see a heartbeat in the womb at that was it - but it reassured me no end to see a heartbeat at 9 weeks.

Come on over to the August Ante-natal thread - I'll link in a mo

Thanks Foghorn, nice to be reassured that I am normal

I never thought I would be so paranoid after cruising through first pregnancy!

I'll come over to the August thread! Thanks
