Hi. I found out around 4/5 days ago that I am three weeks pregnant! I phoned the doctor and the receptionist told me to register myself with a hospital and a midwife will be in contact closer to 10-12 week. As this is my first pregnancy I am unsure if this is what happens? I thought the doctor confirmed your pregnancy(not sure why) but is this normal? Im getting confused on wether I am pregnant or not to the point I've made my partner buy me another test to bring home tonight! It's just wreaking my brain wondering if I'm really pregnant!

Thanks for the help!

I’m on baby number 3 and never had a doctor confirm my pregnancy. In fact you could be completely making it up until your 12 week scan as that’s the first time anyone would know unless you have an earlier private scan. Home pregnancy tests are very reliable and if it says you’re pregnant, then you’re pregnant! Congrats!

You don't tend to go to the GP to confirm a pregnancy now. Look at your local hospital's maternity section and that should guide you as to how to register with a Midwife and then your booking appointment will be around 8-10 weeks with a dating scan between 11-13 weeks.

where I am you self refer and then get an appointment for the midwife between 8-12 weeks and a scan.

Self refer is pretty standard.
GPs generally have nothing to do with pregnancy/maternity care.

I had my first 24 years ago and you didn't see the doctor then either. You made a booking in appointment with the midwife via the drs receptionist (then) which was at 12 weeks. I was told they did them then because they wanted to ensure the pregnancy was established.
