GTT - first bloods high

Hi,

I’ve just had the first of the two blood tests as part of the GTT. Now sitting and waiting for the one two hours later.

The phlebotomist tested my blood straight away from the first one and said it was 5.9, which after googling, seems to be quite high and indicate I will come back as having gestational diabetes.

Does anyone have any prior experience of this? Is there a chance the ‘rise’ in levels won’t be extreme and therefore I may not have GD? I know I’m being impatient and won’t actually know the result until next week but I’m really interested to hear other people’s experiences and either put my mind at rest a bit or begin to prepare myself!

Reason for GTT is that I have PCOS.

Thanks!

I have GD. My fasting level has to be below 4.3 so I think your test will come back positive….

Oh wow: mine is really high then! When I googled, it suggested that 5.9 was the cut off for ‘normal’ so I’m surprised that your target is 4.3.

Do you mind me asking how you’ve found having GD? Are you finding it easy enough to manage with diet and exercise?

Turns out I misheard: asked the phlebotomist to confirm when I went back for second blood test and she said it was 4.9. Panic over!
