Due in 5 weeks and have just started going through the few bits of clothes we have for baby.

Realistically what do we need size wise and amount? Trying to keep costs down so don't want to buy loads of stuff if it's not needed.

My daughter was premature and is 3 in September. In that time she’s gone from wearing tiny baby to now needing 4-5.

I’d get get a hand full of baby grows to begin with and then see how you feel when the baby’s here. They’ll outgrow most things really quickly so you pick up almost brand new branded clothes from Mum to Mum markets incredibly cheaply.

I think we brought 0-3 originally then my husband had to go to the closest supermarket for the tiny baby clothes when was clear I’d be giving birth that day.

We needed tiny baby for the first 6 weeks then newborn for about 6 more weeks. Can't beat a baby in a baby grow, they don't need proper outfits.

Is your baby is average size? If you've not been for extra scans to check the growth it will most likely be average, so newborn should be fine. We just dressed both of ours in vests, either short sleeved or long sleeved, and baby grows for the first about 2 months.

We started with 8 of each, but went out to buy bigger ones when we knew how big they were. Both my babies were big, 10lb 11 and 10lb 6 so went straight into 0-3 month stuff.

Remember that shops are open, supermarkets are 24hr in most places for clothing emergencies so you don't need tons, plus people will probably buy you gifts too. Keep bibs and muslins handy for sick ups and to protect clothes. Best of luck with your new baby!

I had about 6 babygros and same of vests in size 0-3.Babies were 2.9-3.8 kg and these were a bit big but not too big to be worth exchanging.I had a coat for my winter baby and a couple of cardigans and hats.
People give gifts of clothes so I would wait beyond that but I am quite stingy.
