Really high heart rate at 25 weeks pregnant

I just had my 25 week midwife appointment and everything else was all good except my heart rate which reached 130 bpm. I’m feeling completely fine in myself does anyone know why it can get so high? Midwife told me to go and get it checked in A&E, so I’m waiting there now. Just got blood pressure and heart rate checked now in A&E and now my heart rate is even higher than 130? Worried

I think it's pretty normal to have a higher heart rate when pregnant - good idea to get it checked though.

In all my pregnancies I have had a very high HR and episodes of SVT. Monitored by cardiologist and it settled down once baby arrived!

I vaguely remember being prescribed a pill in your pocket style medication which I didn't need to use but I am now on beta blockers.

@wineandsunshine how much was your heart rate? Isn’t 130 a bit too high though? 🥺

Hi op, I went in for reduced movements around 30ish weeks, they monitor showed my heart rate as around 125/130 (also baby's was high) in my case it was a bit of dehydration, and calmed down after a few hours / lots of water

wineandsunshine · 28/07/2022 13:33

Mine went up to 160!

Like PP said lots of things can cause it - exertion, dehydration, hormones - don't forget your heart is pumping harder to make another person.

Also, anxiety will increase HR too - this impacted me massively but if you are checked over thoroughly it should put your mind at rest x

Thanks guys 🥺

Yes this happens to me
also. I’m 30 Weeks now it happens daily. Iv been told I have SVT (super ventricular tachycardia) basically means super fast heart rate. It always slows down by its self sometimes a few hours

Lou98 · 28/07/2022 15:41

I've just had my second baby and my last trimester I had a high heart rate at every appointment and was sent to the hospital multiple times for it. Every time it was due to dehydration

greenacrylicpaint · 28/07/2022 15:42

that's very high and yoh should consider getting your bp checked.

dreamerkr · 28/07/2022 15:52

I’m getting monitored at the hospital right now, it’s gone down to 117-120 but that’s still high. I might have to stay overnight as they’re saying it could be a blood clot too which is common in pregnancy although I don’t think so.

My blood pressure is normal

I had this with my first at 8 months pregnant. My heart rate was 150. They put it down to an infection although couldn't say what infection I had as I was feeling okay otherwise. Antibiotics sorted it out after a few days.

Hope you are okay

Dinoboymama · 28/07/2022 23:03

During all 3 of my pregnancies my heart rate decided to sit around 150 BPM resting I had to wear a heart monitor for a bit for a cardiologist to review and everything was normal another than the fast heart rate.

I hope they find nothing going on for you and you get home soon.

wishuponastar1988 · 29/07/2022 08:04

Hope you are ok. I was in for reduced movements a couple of weeks ago and my heartrate was 120bpm - they wouldn't let me leave until it came down to below 100! They asked me if I was unwell/had covid... I tested positive the next day despite being negative the day I was at the hospital. Did they keep you in?

grosgirl · 07/09/2022 20:37

Hi ladies, can I just ask if any of you went on to have problems during labour? I’ve also got a high heart rate and I’m just a bit anxious about labour.

Lou98 · 09/09/2022 21:22

@grosgirl I never personally. I had a high HR up to and including when I was in labour. I had a quick, straight-forward delivery and a perfectly healthy baby

grosgirl · 09/09/2022 21:30

Thanks Lou. That’s really helpful. At the moment, they are still saying I can have a home birth, which surprised me!

Glad all went well for you.

Lou98 · 10/09/2022 21:31

@grosgirl they monitored mine and I had IV fluids a few times throughout my pregnancy for dehydration (which can also cause a high HR so definitely make sure to drink as much as you can!) but other than that it I never had any problems.

Fingers crossed you get to have your home birth! 🤞

Londonlas · 11/09/2022 10:00

Thank you! This is really helpful info: I’m upping my water intake!

Londonlas · 11/09/2022 10:02

Good luck on your water birth @grosgirl - I’ve been told I can’t be on the midwife led unit because of how high mine is.
