Any Smokers out there with boys

(don't mean smoking in pregnancy obviously, but when you conceived)

Just trying to dispute some research that says smokers have far more girls than boys.

We were hoping for a boy this time - DH has never smoked but I was smoking a little at time of conception - prob about 6 a day.

Just hoping to see some smokers with boys out there (and pref in your late 20's, early 30's as age seems to increase your chances of a girl too!!)

Isn't it supposed to be if the father smokes rather than the mother? I think I've read this before. Anyway...

DH & I smoked until we conceived DD1. Then we both gave up and next had a boy, then a girl and now having another boy.

I can only think of 2 couples I know that smoke (that's good), where both parents smoke they have 2 boys and where father only smokes they have 3 girls.

I was smoking when I fell pg with our 3 of our DC........they're all boys....

Hazel Chesterman Phillips in her book says that men who smoke have a lower sperm count than men who don't. She claims that men with a low sperm count are more likely to conceive girls. I have no idea whether there is medical evidence to back this up. So even if she is correct maternal smoking is unlikely to have any effect. But I am no great believer in Hazel's method tbh.

i don;t think it will make much difference, it is sperm that determines the gender, so your smoking will not make a difference, AFAIK. stopping smoking should be part of pre natal preparation.

36, used to smoke like hell, Dh smokes, having a boy. sister smokes like hell, her DH smokes she's got 3 boys. Rest of immediate family and DH's immediate family don't smoke and have only got girls.

I smoked & gave up as soon as i found out i was pregnant with both of mine, not a heavy smoker though, dp smokes, we have a boy & a girl dp i also have a dss. dp is 29 i am 25.

BOth DS dad and I were smokers when DS was conceived - andI was 39 at the time.

Bit concerned about smoking when trying to conceive but hope you enjoy your pregnancy and it really won't matter boy or girl once born...

Yes both dp and I smoked when ds was conceived.

Conceived DD at 33.5 (me) and 34 (DH). Both were smokers - me on a pack and DH on over 2 packs a day.

i was smoking when dd and ds were concieved so no difference.

Was smoking at conception of ds. I was aged 32. Gave up for ages and ages and stupidly started again aged 34. Conceived dd aged 35 while smoking. Gave up again and still off thank goodness.

Really don't reccommend it as a way of choosing the sex of your baby. Far better not to smoke at all!

I wasn't actively ttc when got pregnant this time so can be forgiven for having the odd cheeky fag! Think that'll be it now for my smoking - I've been given another chance to give up for good.

It's just DH was kinda hoping for a boy now we've got a DD and when I read this research I thought whoops - (although a DD2 will be just as much a blessing) but obviously by all these replies it is possible to still conceive a boy if you've been smoking! I normally ignore these bits of research they publish but had never heard of this one.
