we've just had our cotbed delivered and ive assembled it but im worried about the mattress that came with it.

everything ive read says mattresses should be snug but there is a gap each side of about an inch and it can move around quite a bit, and if it were to move totally to one side there would be quite a gap in which baby could get his hand stuck.

im not sure if this gap is normal or if im worrying needlessly.

should i get a new mattress????

I think you may be right to be worried- cotbeds are usually a standard size, with standard size mattresses. if you look on the mothercare website and locate the matresses it'll tell you the size they should be and you could check.

It won't matter immediately your baby's born but once they start rolling around s/he could get trapped down the side- the advice is they should be tight fitting, I think.

I'm sure I read somewhere that there shouldn't be more than a 4cm gap but you should check it out. Would be a bit of a pain if the mattress that came with it wasn't suitable!!

i measured and the gap is about 4cm, i will see if i can find any info on mothercare.

feel a bit silly now but i blame first time mum worry hormones

thanks guys.
