Subchorionic bleed

Has anyone got experience of subchorionic bleeding? I've had a few very heavy bleeds this week, currently terrified to move as I've had several gushes today when I've stood up.

I'm 11 weeks pregnant, had a scan at EPU on Thursday. Baby was fine but they told me they could see a small subchorionic bleed and I have my dating scan booked tomorrow. Hard to believe the baby can survive this amount of bleeding.

Ok, I've had one and for me it wasn't good news BUT the gynae told me whilst they can increase the risk of mc, they don't cause mc. If all was well on Thursday I'm sure it will be tomorrow too.

Thanks @wingingit33 and sorry to hear you didn't have a good outcome. My pregnancy is high risk due to 1 previous loss and 1 extremely premature birth but I've never had this issue before.

I just feel quite helpless at the moment really, have hardly moved today and have still had multiple gushes.

I had a massive bleed at about 12 weeks. How the pregnancy survived I can’t imagine because the car seat was soaked. All was well. I think just put your feet up and try not to worry (ridiculous of course you will be anxious).

breakingthebank · 24/07/2022 17:09

Yeah that's the level of bleeding I'm having @5zeds. Went through 4 night time sanitary towels and 2 changes of clothes within 2 hours this morning. Also had a massive bleed yesterday morning. So scary.

I'm just trying to rest and hoping that this is my body getting rid of the blood but I am very anxious.

@XelaM I had two daughters, then a mc (the pregnancy unfortunately with the bleed but not necessarily linked) then I got pregnant again and now have a 5 month old baby. I'm sure you'll have a positive outcome

5zeds · 24/07/2022 19:35

Nothing is certain and it’s horrible waiting. Brew

breakingthebank · 25/07/2022 20:31

Well I had 12 week scan and baby is still fine thankfully. Bleed has grown in size though.

Had a good chat with the consultant who says there is nothing that can be done to stop the bleeding, hopefully it will just resolve itself. You're right @5zeds the uncertainty is the worst thing.

Have they suggested bed rest @XelaM ? Mine was tiny so carried on as normal but I know others with large bleeds have been signed off on rest until it lessens

wingingit33 · 25/07/2022 21:10

Sorry @breakingthebank

SQLserved · 25/07/2022 21:17

Have they prescribed cyclogest?

I’ve had 2 with huge bleeds and everything was okay and 1 that was not.

breakingthebank · 25/07/2022 22:12

No @wingingit33, they just said there is nothing that I can do to make it better or worse.

@SQLserved yes I was prescribed them last week when I first went to EPU so will keep using them and hoping for the best.

Did you find anything helped with reducing the bleeding at all?

I had this too (on a long distance train journey no less), following a lot of spotting from the first few weeks of pregnancy onwards. It was so heavy I just couldn't believe I'd not lost the baby. But I'm delighted to say he is now 16.

Your post took me right back to that time - it is just so stressful and you have my every sympathy and best wishes. It ended well for me and I really hope it's the same for you.

I found bed rest to be the most helpful, with cyclogest.

One of the bleeds was caused by a UTI, which can aggravate the uterus. What helped this was being admitted to the antenatal ward for a week (again on bed rest) until the antibiotics cleared the infection.

breakingthebank · 27/07/2022 17:20

Well I was back at hospital yesterday after passing blood clots the size of my hand (sorry tmi!) Terrifying. Bleed had reduced in size from the previous day so seems like I'd passed some of it. Baby was fine.

No flooding today so far - I'm really hoping this is the start of it resolving. Such a stressful waiting game, made more stressful because I'm supposed to be flying abroad next week and I just don't know whether I'll be fit to go.

I been bleeding throughout this pregnancy also told it was a subchorionic bleed. I've had 2 extra scans at the EPU at 11 weeks and 16 weeks baby growing well.
At my 20 weeks scan baby is still growing and perfectly fine. The area of bleeding can still be seen but it's smaller than it was at 16 weeks.
I've bleed loads and it's not affected the baby so far and I was told I will more than likely continue to bleed and it won't affect the baby.

5zeds · 27/07/2022 23:54

I personally wouldn’t fly. I fly a lot and it always brings on a period or makes it faster/heavier. I assume something to do with the altitude. Ask a Dr if it’s sensible.

breakingthebank · 28/07/2022 12:40

@Lilbunnyfufu great news that baby is still fine. Not nice to bleed throughout the pregnancy though. My bleeding has been much lighter for last couple of days so I'm continuing to rest and keeping everything crossed!

@5zeds Doctors have said nothing I do/don't do will make any difference including flying but to make sure travel insurance covers me in case I have another bleed abroad. It is a really difficult decision.
