Miscarriage with Progesterone

Lyla82 · 23/07/2022 17:57

I'm currently 4 weeks pregnant and have been having continuous cramps for a few days now. I'm concerned that this might end in another miscarriage, but I have been taking 800mg of Progesterone daily and so I don't know if I would bleed if that was the case? I'm worried that I will wait another 2-3 weeks for a viability scan only to find out the baby hasn't progressed any further than I am now, but my body just couldn't bleed due to Progesterone. I had a MMC last year and it was heartbreaking.
Can anyone offer any advice or previous experiences please?
Thank you

@Lyla82
I had this question myself, wss put on it for this pregnancy after 4 miscarriages but wss told it will not stop the bleeding if you where to go on to loss. But I had cramping throughout with this one I'm now 17 weeks and can feel pulling everything stretching now, goodluck and hope the progesterone helps you, I'm not sure if it's why I'm now 17 weeks or if it was to be but it's the only thing I done differently.

I had a MMC whilst on progesterone but I did bleed about 2 weeks after when I was still taking it. I hadn't stopped it as they wanted me to go for a follow up scan just to double check

@babyghirl thank you for your reply. And congrats on your pregnancy! I'm glad you're finally having some luck.
Do you mind me asking, were your cramps continuous and didn't go away with this pregnancy? My concern is that they just don't stop, its just a continuous pain and cramping. Everything I've read online says the cramps should be infrequent and should go when move/rest/go toilet, but mine don't.

@Lyla82 i could have written this post myself! I had a MMC last year. Even after I stopped progesterone and all my other ivf meds (7 weeks) I didn’t miscarry naturally and had to go down the D&C route at 12 weeks.
I’m now 6 weeks and wondering the same as you… would taking the progesterone stop me from miscarrying naturally! I’ve googled everything and got no definitive answer.
Fingers crossed for us all!

@Lyla82
There was days they where there alday but not painful just noticeable, but I looked at it I was not bleeding with them, also with all my miscarriages I always started bleeding first and only really had pain when passing sac and things so this was different and I took that as a good sign x

Thank you for your reply. I'm so sorry for your loss 💐

Do you know how far along your baby made it to? My worry is that my body wants to miscarry now at 4 weeks, but I make it wait until a scan at 7 weeks, then have to come off the drugs and wait for the miscarriage. It seems like a unnecessary trauma and a waste of time when I'm early 40.

It must have been so hard for you having the whole process go on for so much longer than it needed to.

It's such a mentally hard time isn't it! We have no idea what's going on. My biggest fear was miscarrying, but now that's made worse by not knowing if my body is not being allowed to!

Congrats on your pregnancy. Let's hope you see a lovely heartbeat soon ❤️

@Lyla82 5.5 weeks, I had the first scan at just over 6 weeks and the sac was too small. I suspected there was an issue as I started with very low hcg, it doubled initially though. I completely understand your concerns as I felt the same

Jbat2022 · 23/07/2022 20:48

Hi, I was put on progesterone following 2 miscarriages (first was MMC). With this pregnancy I had a few episodes of bleeding/ spotting and even a few clots (sorry TMI). First episode was around 4 weeks and the cramps were very intense at times. I had scans every 2 weeks from week 6 and all was fine on each scan - although I was a nervous wreck each time! So progesterone wouldn't necessarily stop you from bleeding...and it can still be okay if you do. I'm now 40 weeks pregnant btw.
I really hope things work out for you! Stay positive

Lyla82 · 24/07/2022 08:22

@Jbat2022 thank you for your reply. Its good to know you can have cramps and still be OK. It's also positive to see that progesterone has helped you.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! And good luck with the birth, which must be any day now! 💗💙

Hi @Lyla82 how are things?

Hi @Lyla82 how are things?

Hi @bloomety I actually had my viability scan this morning at 5+5 and baby was tracking at 6 weeks and we saw a heartbeat. I was so shocked I burst into tears! I'm still cramping now and I was in agony with cramps earlier this week, so I still feel worried that it's too good to be true tbh! So I'm very happy today, but I'm sure I'll be back to panicking tomorrow 🙈
Thank you for asking 🥰

Hi all, following this thread with interest

in currently in progesterone 3 times a day, my viability scan isn’t till 23rd august.

I am a little worried as my nausea (only symptom) seems to have disappeared but I keep positive as there’s no bleed yet.

fingers crossed for positive outcome for everyone x

bloomety · 04/08/2022 19:31

Gosh that’s amazing news @Lyla82!! for the baby to be ahead is fantastic and to see the heartbeat already. I had a scan at 5+5 with my second son and there was no heartbeat yet. I was petrified, one showed up a week later. So sounds like your little bean is doing great.

Hi @Lyla82 lovely
canni ask how you got on?? Really interested on how everything turned out for you 🤞 xx

Anastasia84 · 03/12/2023 19:09

Yes, would be great to know how everyone is doing. I have the same questions and no clear answer…

Anastasia84 · 03/12/2023 19:13

I had really bad cramps when started the progesterone. It felt more like trapped gas. All stopped the next day after the transfer. Positive test, but no other symptoms. Questioning if it is happening at all…

Amyb123456 · 03/12/2023 22:17

Update on me.
I had cramps when I started and sometimes throughout too. No one tells you that it causes constipation and gas - when also gives your cramps! I am still pregnant and I’m 16 weeks, I now stop taking it. Good luck everyone
