High PI Readings - 30 Weeks

Hi, looking for anyone who has experienced similar.

I’m classed as high risk already due to my age, and 2 weeks ago found I had gestational diabetes

Went for my first growth scan on Wednesday, and my PI was high (above 95th centile) at 1.35, 1.39, 1.33

Another Doppler scan was booked in for today, and they’ve increased more to 1.48, 1.49, 1.54

I’m booked in for another scan on Monday, I know I’m now high risk for pre eclampsia so I need to watch for any signs this weekend.

Reading the pathway guidelines, I could end up going into hospital and needing a c section - but has anyone had similar happen? I should’ve asked really how long the monitoring will continue before a decision like that is made.

Terrified of her being stillborn - but obviously I know the longer I can carry her for the better as 30 weeks is still really early for her to arrive.

Didn't want to read and run, @Trying81

No experience with high PI values, mine were off the scale at the other end.

Have they put you on aspirin or anything to help? It's usually given much earlier than 30 weeks though.

How was your baby's size/growth? Everything ok there despite the PI values?

I’ve been on aspirin since my first appt - due to my age mainly

She was around 90th centile for growth, which they believe is due to the diabetes - so at least no issues there. It’s slowed slightly since I was diagnosed with it, but is still 80+ centile

Its been a tough pregnancy throughout, I have hyperemesis and have been losing weight - but I wasn’t overweight to start with. Can’t help but feel my body is just struggling with pregnancy - it’s took us so long to actually get here so my age is against me

Hi Op,

I was told that EDF readings are more important than the PI index. As long as it is present/positive the bloodflow is adequate.

I also had some high PI readings but then on the next doppler scan was normal, high readings can be caused by many things.

30 weeks gestational age is very good and you are having regular scans and bloods. Hopefully the movements are ok.

You are in good hands, take one day at the time. X
