Excuse needed

I've just found out that I'm pregnant with my third and I'm meant to be going to a party on Friday. I can't not go and I need an excuse for why I'm not drinking! Any good ideas? I'm happy to tell the host but I really can't have anyone else knowing.

Just hold a glass of alcohol all night and pretend to sip from it. Go to the toilet and pour it down the sink, then repeat.

OurChristmasMiracle · 21/07/2022 11:54

Get a coke and just say it’s vodka and coke?

or if your like me and prone to bladder infections I would say I’m on yet more antibiotics

in fact I was under urology because of repeat bladder infections so when I fell pregnant I just said that my urologist has put me on low dose antibiotics for a few weeks. Worked a treat

Either day you're trying to lose weight, are hungover from night before, or just pretend to drink.

Do not say antibiotics! Everyone will guess.

dementedpixie · 21/07/2022 11:56

Say you are really hung over from the night before and can't face any alcohol. Or you are going somewhere really early on Saturday and need to be able to drive.

Babyghirl · 21/07/2022 16:37

@booklover164
Just say you have covid so can't attend.

Jaaxe · 21/07/2022 20:40

Drive there and then use ur driving as ur excuse, it’s the best one. Or pretend you are drinking but just buy a soft drink. If anyone offers you a drink just kindly decline because you aren’t sure what you want so are going to go bar in a minute

BlondePotter · 21/07/2022 21:09

If you have to go, then can you have drinks which look like alcohol? I went to a wedding the other day and it would have been so obvious if I wasn't drinking, so I asked the barman to put a tonic water in a gin glass, pretended to sip from prosecco which my husband then finished, and after a while everyone was so busy having fun they didn't notice whether I held a drink or not

Coffeaddict · 21/07/2022 21:11

I would go with drinks that look alcoholic.
Let the host know and they can assist in providing you with your " rum and coke"

catcurl · 21/07/2022 21:12

Don't say antibiotics.... you might as well say you are pregnant!

I think too hungover from the night before is ideal, or else pretending to drink but not sipping/ordering soft drinks. Or if you can't face it, Covid!

Clevs · 21/07/2022 21:21

Just say you're driving.

justsaythanks · 22/07/2022 09:23

Drive or buy a large glass wine and pretend to drink it (if you drink wine anyway that is- if you drink pints you may not get away with this ). Or alcohol free beer.

Merryclaire · 22/07/2022 11:02

I never understand why people feel the need to make sure you’re having a drink. Is it because they feel guilty for drinking?

I don’t really drink and get tired of people acting horrified by the idea I’m not.

Either way, only if asked, I’d say you’re taking it easy tonight as you’ve had a horrible head ache all day, and then sip something that looks like it could be alcoholic. I wouldn’t bring it up unless anyone else does.

booklover164 · 24/07/2022 19:43

Thanks everyone. It went fine and nobody batted an eyelid. I just had one of those 0% glasses of wine and well, it was rank!

Glad it went well. Sorry the wine was shit.

Sipsmith do a lovely alcohol free gin that I drank through my pregnancies so if your partial to a g and t I would recommend that
