Having children after roaccutane

Hello ladies. My partner and I are planning for a child and I wanted to see your stories about conceiving after roaccutane. I was on this drug many years ago and suffered horrible side effects, some of which I'm still dealing with today such as sleep disturbances. Im really worried about conceiving and wanted to know if you had any issues with baby after being on roaccutane.

Hello! As far as I'm aware, the drug leaves the body in a month. You waited years. I wouldn't sweat it. Best of luck with ttc!

Took it as a teen, had two perfectly healthy babies in my twenties. It leaves the system relatively quickly I think.

my sister took it at 12, don’t believe they said it would cause her fertility issues down the line (my mum wouldn’t of said yes to her having it if this was the case)…I thought it was just absolutely not safe to get pregnant whilst on it, but once you are off it it comes out your system quickly and you’re fine to conceive x

I started trying a month after coming off of roaccutane which was as soon as "allowed" (we wanted to try for a baby before going on it but had waited so long for the referral I couldn't put off the medication any longer) . I didn't happen to get pregnant until 6 months after but went on to have two perfect children in 2 years.

I think the month they give you is extra precautionary as its so damaging to a fetus that they need to be sure it's fully out of your system. If it was borderline after a month I'm sure they'd say wait for example 2 months. They won't be taking risks with the advice, considering how strict the prescription of it is regarding pregnancy tests etc...Good luck!

Nope no issues. 5 years after.

The issues with fertility are related to when you’re actually taking it - ie birth defects etc. The drug doesn’t stay in your body long term. Shouldn’t cause any issues at all.

I took it up to my wedding, stopped all contraception 2 months later and was pregnant a month after that...everything was fine. As others have said, it's only while you are taking the medication that there are any issues, they say to wait a month to get it out of your system. You will be fine x
