Possible preeclampsia question

Hey,
so I've struggled with high blood pressure since 12 weeks. Was put on labetalol twice a day. Which worked for a while then blood pressure started creeping up again so was upped to 3x daily.
Fast forward to 33 weeks. Went for a growth scan ( serial growth scans as previous small for gestational age baby)
baby's growth has slowed dropped from 50th centile to below the tenth. Blood pressure was 145/90. No protein as usual in urine. Consultant upped meds to 4x a day. Had to go in every 48hours last week for blood pressure and urine check. Last check being yesterday and everything was fine.
Had to go in for a well-being scan to check on baby and for blood pressure and urine.
Baby is currently happy and well. Blood pressure was controlled but this time they've found protein in urine. They've sent the sample of to the lab to get exact levels before they diagnose preeclampsia and make the next plan.
I guess what I'm asking is can it really develop that quickly over night considering no protein all the way through this pregnancy and suddenly today there is?

They wouldn't be testing to diagnose it if it's not possible. Hopefully it isn't, but they'll look after you

Unfortunately it is possible, it may well be pretty low for now but will likely increase. Have they put you on 48 hour check ups? It can escalate very quickly.

My DD was born at 36+4 weighing 4lb 1oz, it was only picked up at 35 weeks that my BP was high, a few days later the protein appeared. She was small but healthy and didn’t need any Neo Natal care.

Yeah i was on 48hours check all last week for blood pressure to make sure the increase in medication was working. No protein all week and none yesterday. But today there was. That's why I wasn't sure in less that 24hours could it develop that quickly.
they said results should be tomorrow if not Wednesday

I had protein a couple of times but the further tests came back clear, they said it can happen for different reasons and that's why they send it off, they usually turn the results round quickly. Fingers crossed for you.

I did in the end, they tried to keep me going as long as possible (I was given the steroid injections to help her lungs develop) and told they would prefer to induce me (I was originally meant to have an elcs due to a previous none related pregnancy issue, but once preeclampsia was diagnosed they decided induction was better (I don’t fully understand why) but then, the medication stopped working, my BP went up to 210/138 (they said they were unsure how I wasn’t in a coma) and babies movements / heart rate pretty much stopped. I was rushed the theatre for and emcs as soon as they managed to get one reading under /100.

@Overanxiousmummy
thankyou that's helpful to know. was just a bit concerned about the protein considering blood pressure was high despite being controlled for over 20 weeks that was all

Yes it can. It can come on really quickly.

I was admitted at 32 weeks so they could monitor me

At 33 weeks I was given steroid injections to speed up baby's lung development. The sun was yo get me to 35 weeks.

Ended up having to have baby at 34+2 because the drugs could do no more and it was starting to affect my kidneys.

Baby spent 12 days in special care unit and I spent 10 days in recovery.

@L96F I totally understand, I was on labetalol from my booking appointment and had ups and downs with BP, most of the time the labetalol did the trick but if I was slightly late with a tablet or had a particularly anxious day it would be high. The most important thing is they are checking it for you and can act accordingly

Nat6999 · 19/07/2022 03:59

It could be pre eclampsia or due to the hot weather could be dehydration, how many weeks are you? Mine didn't start until 36+2, it came on overnight, I went to bed normal & woke up looking like the Michelin man, I had put on 2 stone over night.

L96F · 19/07/2022 06:47

@Nat6999 im 34 weeks
