Painful bump

Am 38+1 and have rested all day but did walk to pick up ds from nursery (20 mins) and then got the train back. My bump has been v uncomfortable/painful since I got back. I don't think these are contractions as the pain is pretty much continuous. Is this normal at this stage? I don't remember it from last time!

Where abouts is the pain in your bump, high or low? If you are worried or in a lot of pain i would ring the delivery suite!! I had a pain going right across the top of my bump and was in agony, it turned out I had a water infection! Sorry I cant be of much help xx

Hi Beansprout - if the pain is high (ie under your ribs) you do need to contact the labour ward IMMEDIATELY to get checked out for pre-eclampsia. It's not normal to have continuous pain in pregnancy at any time unless you are actually in labour (and even then it's not continuous - although it may be for your DH if you are a good shot!)

The pain is low (but didn't know that about PE so that's good to be aware of).

Think I might call the hospital. Thanks.

Ah low pain is good - low pain may mean the baby has descended and is heading for the exit.
