What gestation did you have your elective section?

I'm currently 32 weeks and apparently not getting my section date till 36 weeks, which I was surprised as seems quite late!

However I know that most trusts do elective sections at 39 weeks or close to but if it ends up being that then I miss my daughters first week at Nursery

So would I be out of my mind to ask for then end of the week before when I'll be 38+3/38+4??

Has anyone had a planned section in the 38th week?

Why do you want your baby to be born early?

n3wnamewhodis · 16/07/2022 20:52

Mine was 39+1 and I can't remember being given much choice over it aside from morning or afternoon. I asked for morning but was bumped due to emergencies, understandably. I think I was booked at about 37 weeks.

Daydreamsinsantafe · 16/07/2022 20:54

its Always 39 weeks onwards unless there is a medical indication for earlier.

Searchingforsunshine · 16/07/2022 21:13

I was 38+1 elective c section but had gestational diabetes.

snowflake29 · 16/07/2022 21:24

I'm in exactly the same stage as you OP and worrying about what date they might give me as I really don't want to miss my child's first day at preschool!

Obviously whatever will be will be, but I was wondering about the middle of the 38th week too as I might then be out of hospital in time. I was induced at 39 weeks last time for blood pressure issues but my BP is behaving ok this time round so far!

Eek3under3 · 16/07/2022 21:40

Mine is booked for 38+1 in a couple of weeks but I have GD. DTs were elcs at 36+6. I don’t think they will do an elcs in a low risk pregnancy before 39 weeks…

JanuaryKeepMe · 16/07/2022 21:42

Ds2 was born at 39 weeks.

Monkeytapper · 16/07/2022 21:44

39 weeks

Celeryfavour · 16/07/2022 21:44

40 weeks. It was booked for 40+1 but we didn't get that far!

SheepingStandingUp · 16/07/2022 21:44

36 weeks.
What week gestation does your daughter start nursery? Does your partner drive?

EllieJai44 · 16/07/2022 21:44

Little bit of history I'm not exactly low risk- my previous two pregnancies were induced at 37 weeks due to slowed growth (low birth weights) and reduced movements- so I'm expecting similar growth wise with this baby- however I don't want to be induced due to last birth being traumatic and ending up with EMCS and baby in neonatal unit for 5 days.

Sorry, that was for twins, I meant to add. I worried it was too early and wish I'd have waited longer, I feel I was selfish having them early to fit in with when I had respite booked for DS but we were lucky they were juicy and healthy

EllieJai44 · 16/07/2022 21:47

@SheepingStandingUp she starts at 39+1 weeks- partner does drive but we live just round corner from the nursery

37 weeks

MuchTooTired · 16/07/2022 21:49

I was booked in for an elcs at 38+Something with my DTs, which I knew I’d never make because I’d have burst. Ended up having a surprise elcs at 36+5 due to severe pe, but they’d been trying to get me to over 37 weeks until it became too dangerous to wait any longer.

LittleLottle · 16/07/2022 21:49

If no other factors it'll be 39+ due to the baby's lungs

deathofastrawberry · 16/07/2022 21:51

39+2

Fundays12 · 16/07/2022 21:53

My elective section was 38+2 days. I had my middle child at 37+2 and he was in scbu unit for a week due to breathing problems. Those extra days make a massive difference. A baby born at 36 weeks is premature and may suffer health issues due to it.

ny20005 · 16/07/2022 22:00

36 weeks is quite early but if it's for slow growth, that's probably why

I had elective due to large baby they wanted to take me in at 39 - I had to fight for a bit earlier. I got in 37 +5

EllieJai44 · 16/07/2022 22:00

I think there may have been some misunderstanding, I will get my date at 36 weeks- not having the section at 36 weeks and I don't want it at 36 weeks either!

I'd like it about 38+4 so I don't miss my daughters first day at nursery as she starts when I'm 39+1

Hence asking if a 38 week section was so out of reason to ask- I am a high risk pregnancy in regards of growth dropping off and been induced twice at 37 weeks for this previously

Mine was during the 39th week, but there was flexibility over which day within that week. Personal I wouldn't choose to have a baby earlier then they needed to be out. Whenever it is though, you won't have to miss a week, I was out of hospital within a day and up to short walk a day or two after that.

If the date you are given happens to fall on her very first day, I might ask for it to be a day later, but wouldn't ask for earlier.

SheepingStandingUp · 16/07/2022 22:06

I think 38+4 should be reasonable given your history

DecimatedDreams · 16/07/2022 22:12

Mine was 38+2 according to hospital dates, although I was convinced it was wrong - I thought I was 2 weeks behind, but they went by their dates regardless. I couldn't have gone into labour naturally for health reasons so they needed to try to prevent that happening, or they said they'd have waited a few days.

TheCheeseBadge · 16/07/2022 22:19

I asked for mine to be booked some time in the 38th week as my previous baby was early, labour was fast and resulted in a severe tear. I was really worried about going into labour early and having the baby coming too quickly for me to have my section.

The doctors were having none of it and told me that unless it was because of a medical issue with the baby they did not schedule ELCS before 39 weeks, not even at 38+6! So they booked it for 39+1. Thankfully I didn't go into labour beforehand and everything went smoothly.

If they do book you for 39 weeks can you ask for an afternoon slot so you can at least drop DD off at nursery before you go into hospital?

Lazypuppy · 16/07/2022 22:25

I would ask for 39+2 or 3 then you can do daughters first day of nursery
