NHS NIPT testing

I’m 37 and have been told I have a 1/43 chance of a child with DS. This is from the combined results.
I have a DD aged 6. After her I have suffered 4 recurrent miscarriages.
I’m booked in for a NIPT on Monday.
Im looking for some hope. Is there anyone else who has been in a similar situation?

Hi @Allotmentmum2016 , I was in your shoes not so long ago, 38 and a 1 in 40 although this was from the quad test later on as they couldn’t get a NT measurement from the first scan. I also had NIPT on the NHS, results took a week to come back and fortunately low risk all round.
It was a LONG week of waiting, find all the distraction you can. The fetal medicine midwives were amazing and had all the time in the world for my questions, so make a note of anything you want to ask. They were completely understanding of the worry, even though they must deal with so much worse.

The one thing that really helped me is when she explained that it wasn’t ‘just’ a 1/40 chance, you’d need to find 40 identical pregnancies, 40 women of the exact same age, weight, ethnicity, blood hormone levels etc, and only one of those babies would be affected by DS. I think it get like less of a lottery when it was put that way.

Sending hugs, I know how it felt for me and I can’t imagine the extra worry after your losses 💐

Thank you @Emmzo for you reassuring words.
I forgot mentioned that my NT was 1.20mm. So well within range.
I was also on added progesterone because of my miscarriage history. I keep wondering if that could pushed my levels up.
it’s a mine field isn’t it?

Total mine field! Your NT measurement looks good so it’ll be either HCG or PAPP-A that’s a little off. They said to me that before they even started, my age alone would have put me at 1/150. So anything at all that’s off the normal line would make us high risk, and there’s such a wide range of what’s fine and normal that it’s no wonder things come out higher or lower - unfortunately, with age it doesn’t take much!
I had preeclampsia in my first pregnancy and some of my quad test hormone levels were at levels that are linked to a higher chance of developing it, so that might be what gave a skewed result. I don’t know about progesterone, but it could be that!

Thank you, I feel a bit more at ease. It's going to feel like a long wait waiting for those results to come back through.

Update.
I saw my screening results today.
NT was 1.2mm which we already knew.
PAPP-A was within range.
My hormone range was high.
NIPT test done today. I know have to wait 5-10 days for the results.

I am in a similar situation, I’m 36 and had the high risk call on Monday and had NIPT. I have a 1/142 chance due to low PAPP-a and slightly over normal hcg. My NT measurement was 2.1 so perfectly normal. I’m really struggling with the wait and unless you’ve gone through it or are going through it I don’t think you can understand. My husband and family are being amazing but are focusing on the odds and are far more positive than me. I think it just feels like I got a high risk result on the combined test so it’s possible to get high risk on the NIPT. I’m having a particularly negative day today and feeling nauseous which isn’t helping!

It's a real worry and something you'd like to know either way.

Hopefully we will both hear soon about the outcome.

I just wanted to update this thread incase anyone reads this in the future.
Today I had my NIPT results and was told that we were low risk.
If anyone else finds them selfs going through this, just remember you got this and the wait will soon be over. Xx

I also had mine and they all came back lower chance. Such a relief. I feel like I can start enjoying the pregnancy again! Congratulations @Allotmentmum2016 the worry was worth the higher level of reassurance the NIPT gives.
