doctor has but me on citalopram

well i went back to the docs the tabs he gave me did not seem to work
he do this qustion thing and i scored high for depresstion so now i have bin put on citalopram 20 mg take one aday and will take about 2 weeks before i feel any better great

i have bin sitting here crying my eyes out
i dont want to take them incase it hurts bump but the doc said it should be fine as he is fully delevoped now and he wont have any withdrawl symtems when he is born

i just want to feel normal again

gonna butt in here. I'm not sure SSRI's are a great idea while pregnant. They tell you not to take them while breastfeeding!
The baby may be fully developed but no-one knows what effect having extra serotonin washing about his brain will do. Can you call your doc back?

I was going to say the same. You need to get this checked out for the baby's sake.

you are obviously depressed and need help. your GP is trying to help you, and citalopram is NOT bad in pregnancy if you weigh up the risks and benefits. the second link above, although american, seems to echo that. You can also take one of the SSRI's (sertraline) when breastfeeding.

I know, it's scary taking ANY tablets in pregnancy, especially ones for depression, but being depressed is not good for you OR your baby either.

and for the record, most GP's don't have ACCESS to decent counselling, it's not laziness it's lack of funds from the PCT (old health authorities). although the governoment will have you believe everything is the GP's fault at present.

My gp has made it clear that I could go ahead and conceive on citalopram. All the best.

I was on the same drug when i conceived. I stopped taking it after having conflicting advice. I think the truth is there is not enough research into the dangers although from what i was told the most likely effect is that your baby may be a little depressed after birth when he/she is no longer on the drug.
I echo what cass has said. Depression is a horrid illness, and remember it is an illness not just a state of mind. Having a baby is one of the most stressful times in life and i think if your gp feels you would benefit you should take his advice. By the time your baby arrives you will feel 100 times better and be better prepared to cope in those early days when even the happiest of souls can feel very low in themselves.
