Piles in pregnancy - anyone used Anusol OINTMENT?

Has anyone used the Anusol Ointment (without hydrocortisone as this is safer) during their pregnancy? I have been told it's safe to use, but am only seeing people say they've used the cream and that that's been fine. I am struggling at 25 weeks with piles again and it's driving me mad. I'm particularly interested to hear from those who used this ointment and actually went on to have baby and they were born perfectly healthy? I'm so anxious about any medication during pregnancy.

Could you not just call your local pharmacy and ask?

GPs recommend and prescribe anusol during pregnancy. It doesn't cause any harm to an unborn baby.

OP, this is like asking if anyone went bungee jumping at 35 weeks, or who drank alcohol throughout and delivered a healthy baby. It's purely anecdotal.

I appreciate that you have some anxiety about medication but then the people to ask are doctors and pharmacists. Presumably one or the other told to you to use the ointment in the first place?

No they won't offer any advice as i'm pregnant.

@anxiousmumtobeeee my GP was happy to talk to me and offer advice / prescriptions for piles and all pregnancy symptoms. Your GP surgery sounds a bit odd if a GP won't treat you because you're pregnant.

Yes, I used it. I don't think the active ingredients are different to the cream, it is just the carrier ingredients that are different.

The ointment is the original version (I think). It is greasier and more soothing although more likely to stain underwear. The cream absorbs more quickly, so is less soothing. Both (non-hydrocortisone versions) are listed as safe during pregnancy.

Thank you.

I have had problems with occasional hemoroids since my early 20's. Anusol is the only suppository that really works to shrink hemoroids so that you can get on with life - healthexpress.co.uk/anusol-hc

I find the anasol cream/ointment helped with the pain/ itchiness briefly but never fixed it. Anasol suppositories are the only thing that make mine feel better and improve thing for me.

That and wet wipes after a poo

My midwife said totally fine to use the suppositories while pregnant, I suggest you try them and wet wipes after a poo.

I was told to use the cream but really, just here to say, I’m with you. You have my sympathies. It’s the worst thing about pregnancy for me other than restless leg syndrome!! Hope they clear up soon or at least stop bugging you!

@anxiousmumtobeeee I used the anusol cream but it didn’t help at all really, I then used germaloids ointment which did the trick. Hope this helps (I was about 30 weeks pregnant at the time)
