Hello!!! I find this website really helpful from a previous posts I’m currently 9 weeks and 4 days. I found out I was pregnant at 5 weeks but since then have put on around 5/6lb.

I spent a lot of time of loosing weight and got pretty obsessive with it not eating much etc which obviously now sounding really pathetic now I’m putting on weight I’m worrying but I know it will all be worth it in the end!!!

I am eating 3 meals a day and snacking bits but not overly eating ridiculous amounts, did anyone else put on this much weight before 12 weeks pregnant??? Im a first time mum, I’m not obsessing with putting weight on but when I Google it it says normal amount to put on in first trimester is 1-4lb just wondered if anyone put on anymore but didn’t put toooo much weight on at the end of pregnancy? Xx

Try not to worry. I'm 6+5 with baby number 3 and I've already put on 5 pounds! Eating stops me feeling sick.

With babies 1 and 2 I was the same- gained by far the most weight in the first trimester- it then plateaud a lot and I only gained about 1 stone total for each pregnancy - with most of that being in the first trimester.

I had exactly the same panic when pregnant with DC1- but try not to worry- just listen to your body.

I also found the weight gain much easier to deal with mentally once I had a bump. The first trimester is so hard!

I put on 10lbs by the time I was 12 weeks, and I was quite upset and concerned I was going to be gaining massively for my whole pregnancy. I was eating more in first trimester to ease the sickness and the general feeling that I was dying lol.

I got a little obsessed with weighing myself for a while after that - it wasn't until around 20 weeks (when I started showing) that I calmed down. I'm now 38 weeks and could not care less. I've put on about 2 and a half stone altogether but without doing anything deliberate my attitude to weight gain has completely changed. I think once I saw my bump and felt him it all started to make sense and I stopped worrying.

Definitely don't feel pathetic or bad about it bothering you! I got eye rolls and patronising comments if I ever mentioned my weight gain worries to anyone but DH, and that frankly made it worse. But I think it's completely normal to be thinking about it!

This is me, I was feeling sick constantly so eating made me feel better! Luckily my sickness has calmed down abit now so I’m not snacking as much as I have been the past 3 weeks but I didn’t really know how much to expect to put on during first trimester!! Xxx

i feel silly worrying about it and I am enjoying being pregnant thing is my boobs have got quite big as well which is probably taking a lot of the weight but just didn’t really know what to expect in first trimester because I know they say you put on the most during 2nd trimester xxx

Hi there! Same experience here, 1st trimester 9 weeks today and have been STARVING for the last month. My bump is a food baby haha. Also like others was eating to reduce feeling sick. I'm a first timer too but am resigning myself to the experience. And enjoying all the food. If I feel less hungry later in the pregnancy then great, if not, that's also fine. I guess we need to have a change of mindset.
Maybe speak to your midwife if the weight gain is affecting your mental health as it sounds like you were very focused on it before getting pregnant, CBT can help.

I put on about 8 or 9 lb by 12 weeks, but then didn't put much weight on after that until 20 weeks, as I wasn't shovelling food into my mouth all of the time once the sickness subsided about 12/13 weeks.

Just for some reassurance, at 40 weeks, when I went into labour, I'd put on 2.5 stone. Two days after birth, I'd lost a stone and a half, by the end of the week, I had lost another half a stone, the next week I was down another 3 pounds... So in my whole pregnancy, really I'd only gained 4lb fat total.

It's not all weight from excess fat, you will retain water, your blood volume increases, your boobs weigh more, your uterus grows, you get a placenta and amniotic fluid, etc. Try not to worry and enjoy the pregnancy. The best advice I was given was try to keep active as it's really good for damage control.

Congratulations on the pregnancy!

I think it’s totally normal. You’re bloated in first trimester and I am now 13 weeks and have put on about 8lbs! I am mortified but at the same time I have literally been eating what I can to stop the nausea and that’s mainly been Cathy beige rubbish. Now that sickness is easing slightly I hope to make healthier choices but in the earlier weeks it was just about getting through the day with the sickness x
