Static growth / no growth 30 weeks

I'm 30 weeks pregnant and had a midwife appointment this morning. My midwife could feel that the baby is head down and the heart rate was perfect. Howeverrrr my belly is measuring the same as it was at my last midwife appointment 3 weeks ago. At my last appointment I was only in the third percentile so was already measuring small but now I'm not even in within the lines on the growth chart at all😩

I've been booked in for a growth scan but that isn't until Tuesday next week. The hospital have offered for me to go in on Sunday for monitoring because of how far away the scan is.

At first I wasn't worried but the more that time goes on, the more I'm over thinking and wondering if everything is okay.

Here's a pic of the GROW chart. Has anyone else experienced this?!

Whilst the midwife measurements are useful as a very rough guide, two scans two weeks apart will give you a much clearer picture. My first baby’s growth slowed down / stopped and I had lots of monitoring and scans. I would suggest you go in on Sunday which will hopefully give you some peace of mind until the scan. If baby is measuring small, they may also scan blood flow through the placenta (I think that is what it is).

Good luck.

I've just had the same thing at my 28wk appointment today. Waiting on a call from the hospital when I can get in for a scan.

I know the way they measure the bump is pretty unscientific, but still can't help but be anxious

Oh poor you. It’s so stressful isn’t it. I think I had growth scans from about 28 weeks for other reasons but growth was pretty minimal and stopped between the 34 and 36 week scans. They induced me at 37 weeks following steroids for the baby’s lungs. My baby was just under 5lb so tiny, but healthy. She is now - a nearly as tall as me 12 year old!

Fingers crossed for you. Like the pp, I would suggesting going in for monitoring if you can.

@SergeiL that must've been really scary but I'm glad to hear all worked out well with your baby!

@MandaLynn oh bless you, it's so horrible isn't it. Just when you start to relax and feel like you're on the home stretch☹️ but as you said, the way they measure isn't very scientific so hopefully it's just that we've been measured incorrectly. My midwife did say earlier that it can depend on what position the baby is lying in that changes the size of your belly when they measure it.

Hope you hear back from the hospital soon🤞🏼

Sorry op, this sounds really stressful and I can imagine you’re worried. I agree that the midwife ways of measuring doesn’t seem very scientific so fingers crossed your growth scan will give some reassurance

With my first DC, he was massive (9lbs 2oz) so having a small baby is definitely not what I was expecting

Devotedcatslave · 08/07/2022 20:05

My belly never measured more than 30 cm through the whole of my pregnancy. I had a lot of growth scans, and from what I can gather it was a combination of small baby, and low fluid. Both were on the very low end of normal. There was no actual problem though, DS was born 10 days late in the end, perfectly healthy, just on the small side. Hopefully yours will be the same.

mol2mum · 08/07/2022 20:23

@ShirleyPhallus thank you

@MandaLynn oh that is a bit of a shock then! Maybe you're just not carrying a lot of fluid like @Devotedcatslave suggested🤞🏼

@Devotedcatslave ahh that makes me feel much better, thanks! Hopefully she is just small but healthy. Although that's absolutely not what I expected considering my partner is 6ft 5 and just an overall big built person... she obviously takes after me lol

Don't worry - at 28 weeks baby was measuring on the 97th centile then by 31 weeks the midwife measured that baby was actually plotting on the 90th centile. I got sent for a growth scan and baby is actually on the 55th centile and they have no concerns. I then went back for my 34 week appointment and they sent me back up for a growth scan because their measurements plotted slow growth again - growth scan showed baby was on the 57th centile and they were not worried. Measuring by the midwife is largely very inaccurate so don't panic x

MandaLynn · 14/07/2022 13:43

@mol2mum how did your growth scan go?

mol2mum · 14/07/2022 16:39

@MandaLynn ahh thanks for checking in! It went amazingly, I'm so relieved. Baby is measuring exactly on the 50th percentile line and weighing 3lbs 12... all else is good with her too from what they can see💗
