Which parts of my notes do they need when I come into hospital?

There are so many pieces of paper I have accumulated throughout the pregnancy. Do they just need my pregnancy book and birth plan, or do also they need all the scan reports/antenatal booking summary etc?

I bring anything that actually pertains to me and my pregnancy, so any results and the booklet thing, and I leave all the bumf about not smoking or drinking and weeks of pregnancy and stuff

Thanks! Do you get your notes back at the end?

No you don’t. Make sure you take your scan photos out or you’ll never see them again

I'd forgotten about that, no I never got mine back either! Luckily my scan photos were elsewhere. You should get a different booklet back with post natal notes and stuff

Mine is a literal old fashioned hospital file containing everything, I have nothing loose! I just take that with me. I tend to take the scan photos out if they're in there.

Thanks everyone :) I have my own notes (eg. from NCT classes, a list of people to call, diagrams of birth positions etc) so I'll make two separate files, one for me and one for the midwives. I've photocopied all my scan reports now so I can keep a copy if I don't get them back.

Those who want copies of their notes you can send off for them, takes around 6 weeks. I've done it with both of my pregnancies, for the last one I got loads of extra scan pictures as well. I was charged the first time about £30 but this time it was free. If you contact PALS at the hospital you give birth at they'll tell you how to do it.
