Hi all. Recently found out I am pregnant with very unexpected baby number 4. I am 34 and I have three kids, 13, 11 & 6.

Im still pretty much in shock about the whole
thing and thought my baby days were long gone, but I’m really struggling with miss swings. Every little thing the kids do just seems to grate on me, by 8pm I’m so tired I am snappy and I hate it. I am generally the most relaxed parent ever. My eldest said she hoped I would wake up in a happy mood today, because I was so snappy last night I took myself to bed at 9.15.

Has anyone got any tips? On your can’t tell them yet, which would help because at least they would know why I’m being awful.

Are you getting enough sleep? My mood has been pretty good, but whenever I don't get enough sleep (and I sometimes need massive amounts of sleep) I feel irritated at every little thing.

Prepregnancy I needed 9 hours a night. So more than most, but am 34 and less resistant against lack of sleep than younger. Early pregnancy I needed the most sleep. 13 plus hours at some points and often broken into say 11 hours plus a nap. Then it dropped to like 9/10. And now at 34 weeks I'm back to needing more sleep. I couldn't nap after work yesterday due to going straight to hospital appointment and grr. I turned into an angry zombie as soon as appointment was over.

The other thing I notice is sugar. Too much sugar / carbs and I find myself in a bad mood.

A food / sleep diary might help you figure out if anything is triggering bad moods.
