No fetal pole at 6 weeks?

Just had an early scan due to history of miscarriage - was sure I was 6 weeks on the dot today based on sex/ovulation tracking.
No fetal pole on a transvaginal US, just a 12mm gestational sac and a yolk sac...

They've said they will re scan me in two weeks to see one way or the other, the woman scanning said it could be I was closer to 5 weeks and it could all be fine but I'm really confused because we only had sex once this month and I'm sure I ovulated the day afterward 😞

Has anyone been through something similar?

I feel so upset and worries and this next two weeks will last years!

Yes, DS1 had no fetal pole at about 6+3. He was born on his due date, and is now a teen.

At this stage even a few days can make a huge difference to what you see! A lot of early pregnancy units will wait till 7 weeks to scan you because then if you're measuring a few days behind it won't matter to what you see, I had a scan at nearly 7 weeks with my daughter and saw just a sac, waited till 12 week scan and she was measuring 9 days behind! But all was fine!

Just because you had sex once, it can take a few more days for implantation etc

Thank you - it's good to hear some encouragement as my partner very much has just given up and won't discuss it.
I feel so awful having to wait and wondering do I feel less pregnant today etc.
not sure how my mental health will cope with waiting another week and a half like this ☹️

Hey, I also had a scan yesterday at 6+1, gestational sac seen but the baby was too small to measure and so I was given a leaflet on ‘uncertain viability’ and booked for a rescan next week. They didn’t tell me the measurements but she did say the gestational sac measured 6 weeks so I am not feeling hopeful.
I am definitely 6 weeks based on LMP and I have very regular cycles so I don’t think I am less than 6 weeks, but I also know the difference of a few days can be huge at this stage. I feel heartbroken and pretty much expecting the worse but I am trying to keep positive and think until they can check next week then I can’t get myself too stressed. It is a really tough time waiting for scans so completely understand how you feel. Hugs xx

I have the exact same very unhelpful leaflet!
From what I've read, it's literally millimetres at this stage so it's very possible for measurements to differ by a mm or two.

Fingers crossed for your rescan next week, I know even if you have regular cycles your ovulation can still differ by a couple of days and implantation in the womb can take a varying amount of time (that's what I've been clinging to anyway!)

It’s nice to have a leaflet to help explain to my DH what they said - but it definitely doesn’t take any anxiety away lol!
You are definitely right re. Mm of difference and in reality a few days can make a huge difference.
Good luck to you with your next scan, I will try to remember to check back in here and see how you get on xxx

How did you all get on? I’m in the same situation now. Gestational sac measured 6+2 weeks which is about right, but no fetal pole visible, only yolk sac. I’m devastated! This is our fourth pregnancy after 2 losses and each time I’ve had a loss I’ve ended up with scarring from the D&C. I can’t believe this could be my third consecutive miscarriage 😞

Hi - I'm really sorry, for me it turned out to be bad news and I had an ERPC because no heartbeat ever developed. However, from anecdotal advice, looking on a million forums and asking the doctor, it really does seem to be about 50/50 positive and negative outcomes from this. I have friends who had the same situation and good news two weeks later so I really hope things turn out well for you xx

It turned out to be bad news for me too - I found out yesterday after seeing a strong heat beat last week, that the heart beat had stopped. Devastated. This is my third missed miscarriage in a row and I'm loosing hope now!
