So today I went to my midwife's and she told me that I've got gestational diabetes on top of that I'm 28week +1 but measuring at 33cm so now I've been referred for growth scans..does anyone know why I'm measuring so big and what that now means

Hello. GD can cause bigger babies, but hopefully the growth scan will give a more accurate picture. It’s still only an estimate but better than the old fashioned way of measuring.

I’m also measuring big, and have been told I’ll have regular growth scans, and if things don’t level out, then closer to the time we will look at possibility of early induction or c section.

Good luck with the growth scan.

@Merryclaire how long after you got told you was measuring big did you get your next scan?

The next scan will be 3 weeks after the first. They said if still measuring big, it’ll likely be every 2 weeks after that. But if measurements do level off then might not need to continue them.

I'm 28+2 and had GTT today, saw midwife and also measuring 33 (at 25 I was measuring 31) they've got me on the fetal growth scan pathway already due to high BMI and not worried. From what I've seen scans and bump measurements aren't overly accurate. May be overly cautious due to the GD?

Don't worry. I was diagnosed with GD at 32 weeks and it can cause your baby to grow too quickly as too much sugar passes through the placenta. They'll keep a close eye on baby's growth and also your diet so bring the sugar levels down. I quite liked the extra opportunities to see my baby!
It can cause the placenta to deteriorate earlier than usual so you may find you're recommended to induce early - I had DD at 38 weeks.
