No heartbeat at 7weeks

Has this happened to anyone? No heartbeat at 7 weeks? I had my scan today 5/7/22, prior to that i had two blood tests and the results were both excellent. My doctor told me it could be I'm 5weeks pregnant and not 7 weeks but told me to prepare for the worst. I have another scan booked next week. The only pregnancy symptoms i have is metallic taste in my mouth and feeling out of breath sometimes. No bleeding or cramping.

Everything seems OK except no heartbeat was detected via transvaginal ultrasound. I'm panicking and preparing for the worst but also hoping for a miracle.

Has this happened with anyone else ?

I'm sorry, I have no experience (I haven't had any scans yet) but didn't want to read and run x

If you’ve had no miscarriage symptoms then it could be that your dates are out, as the doctor suggested. Even if that doesn’t make sense timing wise, fertilisation can take a few days.

Of course, it could be bad news but there is hope. Unfortunately it’s a waiting game.

Fingers crossed for you - hope it all works out.

babyjellyfish · 06/07/2022 07:17

When did you have your blood tests and what were the results?

2019newbie · 06/07/2022 07:46

I had mg blood tests on 20 and 20th June and the results were:

20/6 - • BHCG 2602 IU/L

  • Progesterone 121 nmol/L

24/6 Your BHCG is: 4039
Progesterone: 114

This waiting game is the most excruciating thing ever!

I would say those blood test results were more consistent with you being 5 weeks pregnant than 4 weeks, which would suggest your dates are correct.

Do you really have to wait two weeks for a rescan?

I'd have thought doing it in one week should give you a conclusive answer.

When did you first get a positive pregnancy test?

Dogsandbabies · 06/07/2022 09:06

It could go either way I am afraid. In my case it was bad news. At 7 weeks there was a sac and fetal pole but no heartbeat. I went back at what should have been 8 and although the sac was a lot bigger there was still no heartbeat.

2019newbie · 06/07/2022 12:09

Im going for a scan next Tuesday! Only have to wait 1 week for it.

16 June was when I did the pregnancy test I was 3 days late.

The HCG didn't double, even in 4 days, OP, I'm surprised the doctor didn't seem concerned by that? It's supposed to roughly double every 48 hours, 72 at the most.

Fingers crossed that's just an anomaly though 😕

Piggysmalls22 · 06/07/2022 12:15

I’m sorry you’re experiencing this, I had a similar experience last year. I actually did miscarry but I was experiencing very clear signs of a miscarriage when they did my scan.
I think my bloods came back lower than yours as well.
Fingers crossed everything works out for you xx

@Dogsandbabies im very sorry so hear that.

I'm also a bit worried about your HCG results. Flowers

HSKAT · 06/07/2022 12:17

Could go either way as pp.
For me it wasn't good news, waited for the scan at which I would have been 8 weeks but no heartbeat so a MMC.

The waiting is horrendous, sending love.

AverageJoan · 06/07/2022 12:19

Sending best wishes. Similar thing happened to us, we went for an early private scan thinking we were around 7 weeks but they couldn't see anything and asked us to wait a few weeks and come back. It was a horrible wait but when we went back they dated at 7+5 with a heartbeat and all so confirmed my ovulation day was just really late in the cycle and currently 27+4. Flowers

gunnersgold · 06/07/2022 12:22

Sounds like a missed miscarriage .. they are fairly common .

Same, the results are a) low for your gestation and b) not doubling in 48 hours so I’m surprised your doctor didn’t flag that there might be an issue.

I’m sorry you’re going through this, try to push for a scan and another blood test after a week, that’s enough time for them to know if it’s viable.

@Steakcutchipswithsteak what should
the HCG be? Weird my doctor (private doctor) said they are both good. Hmmmm

@2019newbie there's a massive range of "normal" HCG levels by week, but they should be doubling.

Your progesterone also fell during the four days. Only slightly, and who know if it was just a "time of day" fluctuation, but I believe it should be steadily rising in early pregnancy

2019newbie · 06/07/2022 13:51

@Pollywoddles I will do that, I will call St Mays also to see if they can do a blood test for me.

OP posts:
Steakcutchipswithsteak · 06/07/2022 14:25

What the previous poster said, in early pregnancy the HCG should be doubling roughly ever two days for a single, normal pregnancy. The range is really massive but the doubling every 48ish hours shows typical growth. Your doubling rate is more than 4 days.

Weird things happen, so there is no certaincy, and I hope the best for you, but it's a warning sign of slower growth.
