7weeks large Yolk Sac 4.8mm with heart beat

Hi,

Just did a 7 week scan. The fetal pole was present and the heart beat was 125. However the doctor seemed a bit concerned that the yolk sac was a bit on the larger size of 4.8mm.

He said the normal range is 3-5mm. And from what i understand it continues to grow up to about 10-11 weeks? Is 4.8mm too big and a cause for concern?

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Hi @Bravoroni I don't have experience with that, but if he said that normal is up to 5mm, and yours is 4.8, then it's still within the normal range. Sounds obvious, but I suppose it's a bit like the baby being on a lower or higher percentile size-wise.

Are they scanning you again to check progress?

Yeah it's technically in the normal range. But the DR still seemed a bit concerned. As he said it might grow as we are only 7+1 weeks. He did say that we should stay optimistic though, But i just felt that he was a little concerned.

He also prescribed a medicine called Duphaston (Dydrogesterone) which from my research is used to prevent miscarriage and support pregnancy. So this made us a little un easy too.

We have been trying to have a baby for awhile now. So I'm just very nervous. I hope everything works out and the Yolk Sac stays the same or reduces in size.

Yes we have another scan in 2 weeks. The wait is going to make me go crazy. But hopefully we will get good news.

Fingers crossed for good new next scan! Early pregnancy isn't easy 😫

any updates? same situation here..mine was 4.7mm at 7 weeks

Hi @ameliacelesta , @Bravoroni . Just wondered if you had any updates? My YS measured 4.9mm at 7wk 2 day scan. Going in for another scan next week to check. Hope all well x

Hi @Buddleia86 I had my NT scan yesterday and everything was fine and measured on track. So, very happy about it. Wish you the same and no worries ☺️
