Fetal Medicine Referral

Hey everyone!
We had our 20 week anatomy scan last Wednesday and was told we needed to be referred to Fetal Medicine due to the shape of baby’s head. It’s now Monday and we haven’t heard anything. Quite an unnerving and worrying time for us waiting, how long did you have to wait to hear from Fetal Medicine regarding an appointment and how quickly was it booked in? Did you receive a phone call or a letter? I was told it would show in Badger Notes but thought I would receive a phone call. Have my phone stuck to me like glue!😢😢

Hi we had a referral to foetal medicine for baby being very small. Scan on Weds and call on Monday although it was the jubilee bank holiday. If you haven’t heard anything tomorrow maybe give the scan department a call? I know how horrible it is waiting!

Not got experience but echo what pp has said, don’t sit anxiously waiting, ring them and chase it up, chances are it’s on the way but better to check so you aren’t waiting longer than needed x

I would give them a ring in the morning op.

We were referred as one of the ventricles in baby's brain was larger than normal. It went down after a few weeks back to normal size, and I now have a happy, healthy toddler who is ahead on her milestones. It can go very badly, it can also go very well. I send hugs, the unknown is really tough

I'd definitely give the FMU a ring tomorrow.
Once a referral has been made they usually like to see you fairly quickly. It's worth following up to make sure they've received it.

Thank you everyone, that’s really helpful. Just to update (and for anyone else in a similar situation) I called yesterday morning and was told I would receive a call back but unfortunately didn’t so I called again this morning and the fetal medicine consultant wasn’t in today and I would need to wait until tomorrow. I was advised the consultant ‘grades’ the referrals and it might be that they have decided they want to wait a few weeks before rescanning but haven’t advised this yet. It has been a week now since our anatomy scan so trying to look at it as a positive but we have booked in at the Fetal Medicine Centre in London on Friday for a private scan just so we can get some answers as it has been a tough week of worrying and googling.
