Waters broke at 33 weeks

If your waters broke before 37 weeks, how long did it take for you to go into labour?
I'm now 34+4 and still nothing

Are you in hospital being monitored OP?

Rtmhwales · 03/07/2022 17:06

Mine broke at 31+6 and I went into labour twenty minutes later unfortunately. Contractions were less than 90 seconds apart from the first one and it was very painful. They'd hoped contractions wouldn't start so they could just monitor me hopefully as it was so early.

My best friend had her waters break at 36 weeks and 35 weeks with her two children and labour didn't start with their. She was monitored in hospital and induced when they detected meconium I believe.

Hopefully you're being monitored in hospital right now? Just as an aside, all three of our kids were super healthy and fine despite being premature.

Mine broke at 35 weeks, had to go in and get hooked up on an antibiotic drip, monitored etc - nothing happened for a couple of days, so then they induced me - 2 days after that I had a baby. I was beyond exhausted!

BreakinbadBreakineven · 03/07/2022 17:34

Mine went at 34 weeks, was induced at 34+3, DD born the next day. I was induced because there was meconium in the waters after 2 days, they went green.

Secrettoday · 03/07/2022 17:39

Mine broke at 32 weeks. I was in hospital and had steroids. They kept her in until 36 weeks when they induced as waters became dangerously low. I had to have daily antibiotics and blood tests to test for infection for 4 weeks. She was 5lbs 13ozs and perfectly fine when she was born.

So my waters went at 33 weeks, I was in hospital for 3 days to get the steroids and antibiotics. They discharged me and I have to go in twice a week for bloods and ctg monitoring

34 weeks. Was induced at 36 weeks.

How far gone are you now OP? I'd imagine they'd be pushing for induction asap due to the infection risk?

Waters broke at 33 weeks, i was admitted for 3 days whilst I had the steroids and antibiotics.
Been discharged now and got to go in for twice weekly bloods and monitoring of the baby.
They want to try and push for 37 weeks but baby is also showing to be very very small and now I'm worrying. I just want him out now getting whatever help he needs rather than be struggling inside me

Glad she was ok

Waters went at 33 weeks and I'm now 34+4. They want to try and get me to 37 weeks but baby is showing to be very small also so I'm getting worried he's not getting what he needs from me anymore.
They're just refusing to induce any earlier than 37 weeks

Maybe ask your midwife/consultant what the plan is if labour doesn’t start soon? How long do they watch and wait in your circumstances (current gestation + any other relevant factor)?

The way your first post was worded I was slightly worried you were sitting at home waiting for regular contractions like for a full term pregnancy. At full term I think they induce after 24 or 48 if your waters go but obviously in your case they will be balancing the benefits of staying in longer with the risks of prom.

Inthesameboatatmo · 03/07/2022 19:30

Mine went at 27 weeks I didn't go into labour though. But both me and baby ended up with a massive infection me in icu. Emergency c section at 31 weeks

Inthesameboatatmo · 03/07/2022 19:31

I had to go every day for monitoring though too

Tesoroxx · 03/07/2022 19:36

1st prem baby they broke at 33 weeks at 7am went in was monitored was only 1cm few hours later I was givin steroids 15minutes later I was contracting gave birth just over 24hours after they broke 2nd prem baby they broke at 36 weeks and due to history I was induced

GU24Mum · 03/07/2022 19:50

Mine went at 34 and a few days. I was variously told that I'd have my baby within 24 hours or would be sent home for a few weeks. They discharged me and I had the baby a couple of hours later but that was 3.5 days after my waters went.

Yes sorry, I didn't want to write a whole back story because it's a long one haha.
So far,
Waters have partially broke
Small baby for gestation (below 3rd centile)
High blood pressure (medicated now)

I feel by now they should just induce when I'm 35 weeks

Keep pushing. They wanted me to go until 37 but in the end the gave in and induced me at 36.

Garman · 03/07/2022 22:05

Every extra day baby is inside is a bonus once its deemed safe for both of you. Trust me, you don't want your baby born at 34-35 weeks unless there are no other options. Their lungs are still underdeveloped. I had the steroids at 31 weeks, baby was born at 34+4 and still had serious lung and breathing development issues for the first month.

Weathergirl1 · 03/07/2022 22:16

Mine started trickling at nearly 35 weeks but I didn't have any other issues. Was given a course of antibiotics and booked for an ELCS at 37+2 (baby was also breech!). You might not go into spontaneous labour. Good luck OP.

NoGoodUsernamee · 03/07/2022 22:20

I know it’s worrying but they’re doing what’s best for baby. Every day he/she is inside you is another day stronger. The very best place for them right now is where they are, just keep monitoring things and hope for some small and steady growth.

elliejjtiny · 03/07/2022 22:46

4th baby waters went at 35+1. Had c-section at 35+3 due to oblique lie and risk of cord prolapse.
5th baby waters went at 35+3. Kept in for 2 days and sent home on twice weekly monitoring. Induced at 36+5 due to infection. Baby born at 36+6 with sepsis.
That 9 days leaking waters was awful but it made a massive difference to my baby's health. Despite having sepsis he was home in just over a week where as my 35 weeker spent 4 weeks in hospital. They both have long term health problems but my 36 weeker has a lot less health problems than his brother.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 03/07/2022 22:52

Mine went at 34.2. Lots of monitoring but I was constantly leaking. Scan was baby was ok and 6lbs. Movements decreased massively at 35weeks so was induced-gave me a placental abruption so had a crash section. DD was actually 3lb12 so nowhere near the scan and very small for dates! NICU for a month and came home when she hit 4lb2.

She’s now 18 and just about to go to uni!
