Is 40 too old to have a baby?

Hi everyone! I am currently 39 and have a two year
old. I recently had a missed Miscarriage and now with 40 around the corner I am getting really
anxious! I thought I would be done by 40 but with our infertility journey it hasn’t happened as quickly as what we thought. I really want
to have a second if we can but wondered if it’s selfish too since I am getting older?

Yes yes. You are way too old and should forget the idea entirely, even though you have a toddler 🤦🏻‍♀️.

C'mon now OP don't be disingenuous, you're on mumsnet, you KNOW what the consensus will be amongst the geriatric mums.

ChagSameachDoreen · 03/07/2022 12:42

Of course it isn't. Loads of women have children into their 40s!

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 03/07/2022 12:43

My Dsis just had one at 48.

Cakecakecheese · 03/07/2022 13:20

I do hope not as I'm 41 and pregnant 😁

If your body is fertile (i.e. you’re producing eggs), then your body can have a baby. I would not worry about other people’s opinions on your body and what you want to do with it.

My cousin had her first at 44 and her second at 46. So no, not too old at all! Good luck to you.

Merryclaire · 03/07/2022 14:12

I hope it’s not too old as I’m having my first at 40!

Littlegoth · 03/07/2022 14:13

Nope, trying for my second and if I manage then I’ll be 41!

VladmirsPoutine · 03/07/2022 14:16

Absolutely. You'll never be as young as you are today!

I had my DS at 44 - he's now 7 and he's amazing! I love being a Mum, he's like my best buddy (when I'm not being embarrassing of course) 😂

Starry77 · 03/07/2022 15:05

I am 40 and currently 7+5 with my second and have a 15 month old daughter.

Upsidedownagain · 03/07/2022 15:09

Of course not. I know several people who have had babies in their 40s, though if your fertility is declining already, it is less likely. Depends if you have the mental stamina to keep trying or would rather decide to be happy with the one child you have. (I've been through infertility and know the toll it takes.)
