We returned 5 weeks ago from two weeks in the Caribbean and I’ve got a positive test. I’m freaking out!! Is Zika a worry anymore? I didn’t even realise till someone mentioned it. Should I be worried? Are the chances slim? Just reassurance please

A positive Zika virus test?

Are you pregnant or trying to conceive?

Zika hasn’t gone away. It is still a risk to pregnant women and those planning to conceive. Please speak to your doctor.

Is it not a positive pregnancy test rather than a zika diagnosis?

Did you get mosquito bites?

Cowgirl3x · 02/07/2022 09:54

Sorry a positive pregnancy test should have made that clear!

We don’t recall any bites we used good quality bug spray and bands.

Looks like there aren't outbreaks right now

Also the last recorded Zika case in that area was 2018

Thank you! Most people I speak to say the risk is extremely low

There's very little anyone will do. I came back pregnant from a Zika area with Zika symptoms and over 50 bites. My GP wouldn't run the blood test on me because it wasn't on his drop list of tests on the computer 🙄. He was told he could still send it off under 'other' and refused. My consultant didn't have a clue as Zika isn't 'popular' anymore. My midwife pushed and pushed for them to do something so it was added to my consultant's notes as I was seeing them for something else anyway.

Apparently they can't really tell anything from scans until quite late on in the pregnancy. My DD was born perfectly healthy with no signs of Zika.

From what you have said, I doubt you have any need to worry as it isn't an active area.

That’s very reassuring to know. St Lucia is the place we went on holiday and the last case was 2018. I’m praying it will be ok but I just don’t want it to ruin my pregnancy because I’m so worried about it!!

If you've had no symptoms at all of Zika I really wouldn't worry. We worried the whole way through the pregnancy but between us we had every symptom of having caught Zika. We were in Costa Rica and Nicaragua.
The chances are so so slim it's not worth getting yourself stressed about. Good luck with your pregnancy Flowers.

Hiya, I had my booking on appointment Friday. I conceived on my first day in the Dominican Republic. As I did get bites and it's a high risk country they took an additional blood test done to test for the Zika virus. Results can take a little while and if positive I was told you'd just be consultant led with regular growth scans.

It's not even something which crossed my mind when I went on holiday! X
