Fetal medicine scan. What happens?

I've got to have a fetal medicine scan due to baby being off the chart small. What happens at one of these?
It's confusing because at 33 weeks I had a scan that showed baby was a certain weight and a week later it's now showing he's lost weight.. I didn't think they could lose weight in the womb?

Back story. My waters broke at 33 weeks, the liquid volume is still in the normal range which is good but baby is on the smaller side and keeps failing the test criteria when I go in for monitoring.

Has he lost weight or slipped down the centile line? Mine slipped down the centile line hugely which is why I'm under fetal medicine. It's called IUGR but the great news is you're thirty three weeks so they can safely get him out if they need to without it being too dangerous. It's so stressful though.

At fetal medicine they look at blood flow and also all the measurements. They may make a call to c section or may wait until thirty four weeks. They're trying to get me to thirty six.

Last weeks scan said a bigger fetal weight and this weeks says a smaller weight.. I can only imagine someone down the line has got the measurements wrong. Yesterdays scan was a struggle because baby's head was so low down

Do you know if that would be a planned section? Or do the scan and get into theatre? I'm petrified I won't have anyone with me

I think they would admit you for steroids first and your partner would definitely have time to come with a hospital bag unless they absolutely needed to move immediately

Sorry I don't want to scare you. It sounds like they're handling things.
