Weight gain?

Should I be concerned about the fact that at 24 weeks, I've only gained 3 lb's. I'm not being smug - I was overweight to begin with ! This is second pregnancy and last time I had put on a stone by now.

I've not done any silly dieting, just eating normally. Not drinking (alcohol) which probably helps, but this was the same last time.

Scan at 22wks showed baby growing normally. Not seeing M/W for 4 weeks and don't know whether to bother her.

I don't think so - I haven't put on any weight at all yet (25 weeks)- but that's cos I lost about stone due to morning sickness and then another half stone thanks to the norovirus. GP and midwife seem unconcerned as everything I do eat baby gets. And at my 20 week scan baby came out measuring average, so nothing to worry about really.

Thanks. Poor you! I've been lucky and haven't been ill atall. If I had, I would atleast know what to put it down to. Just concerned that it doesn't make sense.

I wouldn't worry - I am also (very!) overweight, and lost a stone with morning sickness, only put it back on by 34 weeks ish - everytime I mention it to MW she jsut says well done, so obviously not an issue - I think that if you are overweight to begin with it doesn't matter as long as baby is growing ok. I am actually quite happy about it as even now, at 39+3 I am only about 3-4 lbs over my pre-pregnancy weight, so once baby is born I will have lost loads - best diet I've ever been on

nigglewiggle · 16/01/2008 13:06

I'm sure that's what my MW will say. If only I could avoid going back to the wine after i've finished BFing - I'd look like Kate Moss!

I am due to deliver no.3 dc any day, and have had to put away my maternity clothes, (which i only started wearing at 30 wks) and am now back to wearing my prepregnancy clothes and have to keep hoiking them up all the time! I dont really understand it, yes i was overwieght when i got pregnant but i was with my other two as well. This time i would guess that i have lost about a stone.
i do wonder if the amount you are overweight by affects your preg weight gain, as i was over 16st when i fell with my first and only put on 2 kilos.

Was about 11.5 st when i got pregnant with my second and put on about a stone.

I have stayed away from the scales this time, but i know i am smaller now than when i started. People are commenting, my clothes are toooo loose. And when i mentioned to my daughters teacher last week about who could collect her if I am in labour she nearly fell over as she had no idea i was pregnant!!!

The nightmare of it is that when i am not pregnant i really struggle to lose weight, even when dieting and exercising. My new theory is that i have a hormone imbalance which is corrected when i am pregnant or alcohol is a complete no no when it comes to my body having a normal metabolic rate....

Going to shut up now as i can tell i have been rambling.....

I haven't put any weight on this pregnancy and was a bit concerned about it. Have had three scans and one of the sonographers who did 2 of the scans (1st and 3rd) said baby was a bit small on both scans, however different sonographer who did the middle scan said baby was growing nicely! Also checking with a friend on measurements our babies were near enough the same at 12 weeks, in fact mine was a bit bigger! I can now feel the baby moving at 16 weeks so he/she must be growing for me to feel it??

My weight has stayed the same since finding out I was pregnant which in one way I am pleased about but another side of me is a bit worried....I was a bit overweight to start with i.e. was 11stone 10lbs at 5' 7" so had a bmi of about 26. I was a stone lighter when I got pregnant with my DD and by this stage had definately put on more weight as was struggling to get into my normal clothes but with this one my normal clothes are looking like they might last for quite some time yet.

I think with me that I have actually lost weight again due to morning sickness and not having wine regularly and not compensating for it - just eating normally for breakfast, lunch and tea...i don't know what it is but as long as baby is growing nicely I am not going to complain!!

I'm exactly the same as Mum2babyroo, lost about a stone with MS and have only just put that back now at 26 weeks, so at 6 and a half months gone, weigh what I did when i got pregnant. Baby measuring normal on scans. As long as it's growing as it should it's nothing to worry about and saves you getting bad back etc and having to shift it all after the baby comes.

Thanks. That makes me feel a lot better. I seem to be getting a lot more hungry lately, so maybe the pounds will start to gather shortly!

I have read that the more you weigh the less you 'need' to gain during pregnancy. Maybe your body is just naturally doing this? I usually have quite a low BMI (18/19ish), but gain a lot whenever I am pregnant - 3 1/2 - 4 stone! this is my third and the same has happened. I was weighed yesterday at my scan (13wks) and my BMI is already 24! Have been eating more than usual, but fairly healthily - just a lot! When I told the midwife what I weighed before I got pregnant she was really surprised at how much I had put on already. I'm sure that if your baby is growing normally then that's just how your body is when you're pregnant. At least you know that you'll prob be back in your pre pregnancy clothes quite soon after the birth!

I'm nearly 33 weeks and have gained a stone which I don't think is much, I was slim before and I don't seem to have put on weight anywhere except the bump & boobies. My baby was weighing over a pound more than average at my last scan at 31 weeks putting her weight at average for 33/34 weeks... so I'm sure your weight gain or lack of doesn't affect the baby as long as you're eating a healthy & balanced diet.
